Glutton for punishment?

IMG_8239.JPG

Despite me saying I'd had enough.....I bought ANOTHER charger......I now have 3....yes 3, broken chargers.
I'm going to try and get them repaired somehow using the "charger repair" post as my guide, but I'm not 100% sure exactly what to do and the spec of the components I need.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks
Simon

Re: Glutton for punishment?

I fixed my silver ESD by doing the swap of parts. It already worked, but it wasn't designed for my model bike, so I moved the connectors from my old ESD. This leaves me with a gold charger like you have that I bought to repair my bike that is supposed to be a fully working unit that I will probably never use. Good luck with your repair, hopefully you have enough working parts to do it now. It was certainly an adventure taking that dang thing apart. Not designed to be repaired.

You'll need to check every charger, to know what problem do they have.
Do you have the canbus PC cable?
Remember to precharge before plug them in the dc plug, or you'll damage them.

No, precharge the capacitors in the charger before making full contact with the battery: Attach battery minus directly to the charger, but "jump-start" the capacitors by putting an incandecent bulb (for 110...240 AC) between battery plus and charger plus until ten seconds after it no longer glows. Only then plug charger and battery properly together.

Re: Glutton for punishment?

Dang, I thought that was just for when the batteries need to be re-attached, I have seen that process several times, I have been plugging and unplugging the charger every time the batteries get low. I then run a wire from my one bike to the other thru a lamp to bring the charge on the one up using the charge already on the other. Seemed like such a simple solution. Not even sure HOW to precharge the capacitors when plugging the charger back in. When doing the battery you can run another lead between them thru the lamp, but the charger is an insulated connector, you would have to unplug what you have done with the lamp before you could plug the charger back in...

Re: Glutton for punishment?

Have you ever noticed a spark/bang sound when pluging in the charger to the battery lead? If not no need for a precharge at that end. I would actually be surpised if chargers had capacitors on the output side also...
Was just answering Simon's question to R's comment.

There is a spark, sometimes it is massive and it can blow motorcontroller fuses, or damage electric parts. If you can't precharge the charger, just unplug main battery, plug in the cahrger, and precharge entire bike before reconnecting main battery.
