Owner and Clinical Nurse Specialist, Therapeutic Solutions, St. Louis
As a nurse, working in hospitals in St. Louis, Pamela Talley saw young patients suffering prematurely from a variety of illnesses. She embedded herself in the community to search for the reasons why. She witnessed the full spectrum of mental health issues, substance abuse, crime and incarceration that swallow up youth and destroy families in inner city St. Louis. She saw the negative impact of gentrification that destroys neighborhoods, and slashed budgets for public services, affecting older residents the most, many of whom are raising grandchildren. Determined to address the unique needs of senior citizens rearing young children, Talley organized the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program. The program includes a support group offering parenting education, counseling, information and referrals for seniors who find themselves once again in parenting roles. Crisis intervention and case management are focused on supporting families so they can stay together. And the members develop their own program of restorative activities—including going out to lunch, to the movies and gardening—to minimize their isolation and help them to maintain the energy required for parenting at an advanced age.
Excellent! Truly a job well done. This is the sort of post that can really draw us closer together; united as we are by our common interest in St. Louis and medical science. There's just a couple of small points. Details really. Nothing of consequence. First off, we have no idea who Pamella Talley is. No one by that name or anything remotely like it has ever posted here. Secondly it has nothing whatsoever to do with EV. Other than that, though, it's perfect. Keep up the good work.

I'm still waiting to hear who Pamela Talley is and what all this has to do with electric vehicles. You are talking about a study on (fellow members please excuse the use of this word)

Rather a stretch of the imagination to read EV's (that's Elecric Vehicles in case you weren't aware Pat) into this article. So the solution is evidently to redesign urban neighborhoods so they aren't near highway traffic ...

Somehow this doesn't make much sense ... how does one reduce composition anyway, I'm not aware of this process, could you elaborate on the process? As for redesigning urban neighborhoods so they aren't near highway traffic, how do you propose this be done ... do we just tear down all of the existing neighborhoods and put them somewhere else? Maybe we should relocate the highway traffic instead, maybe even encourage the use of EV's (that's Elecric Vehicles in case you weren't aware Pat) on those highways.

Oh, I could go through similar analogies with the other articles that you posted if you like, they don't mention anything about EV's (that's Elecric Vehicles in case you weren't aware Pat) either.
I propose that we all discuss EV related subjects and post links to EV related articles or risk having our Off Topic posts unpublished.
With all due respect, Pamela Talley, Owner and Clinical Nurse Specialist deserves recognition but this is just not the proper forum to voice this recognition.

The comparison would be between a child raised next to a freeway and one raised in a community where only EV's are used, and there are several.
There are Environmentally Friendly Communities, and that data may be used to address some of the problems, as they have done in Europe with special lanes for EV's, free parking in downtown areas, access to Electric charging stations etc.
Respiratory problems was one of the big problems she identified in our Community as our Community Health Nurse, which we were not aware of.

Also now that you brought it up where are these communities, in the USA, where they only use EV's? I might want to move there.

Bay Harbor, Mich., is a perfect example. Near the heart of the traditional automotive industry, over half of the residents in the exclusive, gated community drive a NEV.
BTW, what is this all about?

Well that at least is a start to answer my second question, but some more detail would be nice since Bay Harbor is a rather LARGE city. I also find it strange that the only thing they seem to use are NEV's which are not allowed on streets outside these type of communities. What do they drive the remainder of the time? I would guess people who can afford to live in a gated community would be driving gas guzzling SUV's. So much for clean air.
I still don't know who Pamela Talley is though.

That was just quick answer to a question. Bay Harbor, Mich should have less pollution than living beside a LA Freeway, so everything else being equal, what are the outcomes other than Respiratory problems between the two?

Thanks for the link, as a parent I am very involved in environmental issues, and glad to finally see a long term study done.
