New shocks up front

I am guessing that the shocks in the suspension on the fork of my ebike are a kind of spring. Is it possible to install a set of either hydraulic or pneumatic shocks instead. When all is said and done I hope to be able to ride this bike a long way at a time, so the comfort factor will be more significant than the standard 4-6 mile jaunt.
