I'd like to modify my XB-600 (running at 60V) so that I can travel long distances. I'm interested in adding an electric generator/inverter and charger to accomplish this task (series electric hybrid). I assume I'll need a charger that outputs 60V. I'll also need a gas electric generator that provides ~1200W continuous output. What are the amp requirements for this arrangement? What kind of amp output do I need for the generator and charger so that I can run the bike at peak continuous speed without discharging the batteries? Am I right to assume it'll be around the 10-12amp mark (roughly 50% of 20amp battery series circuit)?

Wow, tall order... The added weight will have to be figured into the efficiency too.
Another question would be, can the bike operate while being charged?
Have you considered a 60v 40-60Ah battery instead?
I'm not especially concerned about efficiency (this is more about dramatically extending driving range). Running on batteries alone I'm currently achieving nearly 1700mpg equivalent. With a electric generator/inverter/charger combination I'll be lucky to attain 110mpg (I'd be satisfied with this result, though). Also, weight shouldn't be too much of an issue. A generator won't weigh much more than 100lbs. Coupled with my weight of 145lbs, I'd be well within the weight limits of the e-bike.
I remember seeing little 50cc Chinese hybrids on Ebay. They offer plug-in charging, motor charging, and a choice of three modes" EV, ICE, or hybrid. I think you need to start with a scooter platform, not a bicycle, if you want to use a four stroke ICE.
Has anyone tried to add a lifep04 battery to an XB-600/610? That may increase it's distance. I am thinking of upgrading my battery but I am not sure which to get. Has anyone done it?
