New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

Ladies and gentleman, I bring you (news of) the Volta G/T.

Here's what I know. It's supposedly coming Spring 2008. It's made in America. It will be shown at the Alternative Car Expo in Santa Monica, CA October 19&20th. Let's hope it's cheaper than the Vectrix.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

I went to their website. A lot of smoke and mirrors. No good specs on the bike. "Give us your snail-mail address and we'll send you a brochure". How last century. Then I got a look at their street address and my teeth nearly fell out. It's about 12 miles from where I live! I sent them an email, maybe just a tad on the fawning side, and we'll see what they say. Maybe I can trade them some programming for a bike. Or maybe I can trade them money for a bike and program a little just to get to hang around. There is a definite kid in a candy store feeling washing over me. (The website could still use some work, though.)

Oh please "drop by"; I'm really curious about what they are doing in the US, as opposed to China.

My bet is that they are just unpacking shipping crates, or perhaps only re-addressing the crates to buyers.

It's possible, but my guess is they are renting an office in the mall. The real estate in that section is pretty cheap after the new mall opened a few blocks away. One of the side-effects of not driving is I just don't make it to Boulder that often any more. If I can't reach anyone on the telephone this week, I'll hop a bus next weekend and check it out in person. The bus system around here lets you take your bike with you (non-electrified only, unfortunately) so I can check out their machine shop as well. Oooh, and maybe swing by Zolo from some duck tacos...

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

I just hope something larger comes out. The current batch with their little 50 inch wheelbase are just not designed for an average north American male, and many females too. I fit on my e-max, but look like something suggestive of those Shriner clowns on their toy cars.

Mountain - is the 3000 watt scooter shown available for retail sale in the US?

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

I should have chimed in earlier but I saw the Volta in person at the Earthworks Expo in Denver in July. I did NOT get to test ride it, but I saw it. The prototype, at least, is real. They were hyping the hell out of the thing but declined to give me a price or availability date. They did say that it would be a step between the E-Max/E-runner/XM-2000 type scooters and the Vetrix. I know Boulder pretty well and I concur with Dave that the addresses they have match with what could be a small business storefront on the old mall and a machine shop on 38th Street. It might just be real fellas!

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

Has anyone called this number: (303) 444-0831
I did, but my phone battery died before I could find information.

That number is assigned to this address:
2525 Arapahoe Ave, Suite E4

The number 278 I would think is a box number at Suite E4.

EVC, Llc
2525 Arapahoe Ave, Suite E4 - 278
Boulder, CO 80302

Not that it really matters, but I'm bored.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

ratatouille: Do you have a website for the 2007 Paris Auto Show or know the dates? I've been looking for this the past couple days and seem unable to find anything for 2007. If you speak French I found this site with some decent info on electric vehicles though. http://www.avem.fr/

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

For two wheels it's here.

For four wheels, only next year (every two years), here.

I know this website, thank you (i'm french).

You seem to speak french, so this forum is great too.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

Thank you.
Ah, every two years. I can't believe I didn't figure that out in the several hours I spent looking for a 2007 show.

Thanks for the forum. My French is a bit rusty from living in the Southern U.S. (I lived in Montreal for 11 years) but I can usually get the gist of things. I did find this other site as well. You may be familiar with that too.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

Met these guys at the Alt Car Expo. Here's the skinny:

They had two of these scooters there. Looked a little smaller than the Vectrix. No rides available (though I did ride a Vectrix, wheeee!).

The reason there's no price listing at the moment is that it's all about custom configuration. What I know is that they're running NiMH batteries in all of them, and the base model is $8,000. I got some specs but didn't write them down. They were something like 7KWatt motor, max speed in high fifties, advertised range of 50mi. Again, take those numbers with a grain of salt because my memory can be a bit shoddy and they were just sales talk anyway since they're not available yet.

You can configure them up from there if you want a bigger motor, etc. I remember the guy saying they had a 20-something Kilowatt motor available. Expensive as hell, but if someone wants that much power they'll build it.

I believe they're looking to ship before the end of 2008. I'll be watching them.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

I also thought I remember seeing pictures of this scooter from someone that was at the show too that posted pictures of it, but I could be wrong. From the pictures, instead of a hub motor, I believe they are using an electric motor driving the rear wheel with chain and sprocket. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

Those pictures from the show are at this link. http://visforvoltage.org/forum/2031-alt-car-expo-oct.-19-20th%2C-2007
And no, they aren't hub motors. I wish they were.
Interesting news about different size motor options....

...EVC's insurance wouldn't allow him to operate at the Expo."

Well I'm all for moving forward in this EV venture but this to me sounds like a bad translation of:"
Uhmmm, ahhmm, weeeeeelll, you see it doesn't work quite the way we want it to...."

or something to the same extent - i.m.o. a lame excuse.

Vectrix was riding outside. As I told the main dude about theat very fact he said. "Nice to meet you Sir. Have a good day..." so I smiled and walked away.

Vectrix is the ONLY tangible, purchasable item on the market, period.
EVC should either not display or be honest, that's how I see it.

I definitely agree that they should be honest. We don't need to be spoon fed. I would much rather an honest explanation like: "It doesn't work yet." Thats not so hard is it?

Dishonesty is the worst business policy.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

Though Vectrix is out in the market today, it's far from perfect. A few fact's first about Vectrix: * Max range is only 30 to 40 miles per charge *Weight 525 lbs, HEAVY! * Severe software issues, causes bike to shut off a lot after driving only 10 miles. * Vectrix is run by a bunch of ex-sail men that don't know anything about the 2 wheel world * Actual charge time is over 3 hours *$12,000 total price (taxes, prep, delivery and such).

Folks, Vectrix went through a lot of hard work and they were very lucky in gaining money to run their company. Vectrix finally went public after 4 attempts and now they have monies to run their company; so when some new company comes along such as Evc, Llc which is run by a company composed of very experienced manufactures, unlike Vectrix, let's give them a break and give Evc a chance to prove themselves. It's important we look to other companies to bring in better product, to get their funding, technology in order, if we as community are going to see any new and better developments in the electric world.

If Evc is using a mail drop, so what! Vectrix started off in a small cramped office 10 years ago, now that they have monies so they can afford the better image that all of you are talking about. Every company starts somewhere; let’s give Evc a chance to grow and to bring to market their product before we start to attack them on something so silly as their mailing address.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

I just listened to the Interview
http://www.evworld.com/article.cfm?storyid=1346
and went to their website, clicked on products and then watched their video. The video is Boulder, Colorado. Boulder Mall and surrounding area. Even drove through Pearl Street Mall, then up into the mountains somewhere.

I still think this is not a manufacturer's address, but a rented mail-drop box:

EVC, Llc
2525 Arapahoe Ave, Suite E4 - 278
Boulder, CO 80302

When I called their number and asked where they were located, the guy returns my question and ask me where I'm at.

Re: New electric scooter/motorcycle coming!

pointman - are you associated with EVC in any way?

I don't think folks would mind too much about a mail drop - but I think folks do get a little skeptical about big claims that are going to be delivered "real soon now".

I agree with you in principle about the Vectrix - overpriced for what it is. Only so-so real world performance and similar sort of teething problems as the rest. That's what you get for reinventing the wheel.

However, as far as I know it was started by folks from Vespa - not the sailors you mentioned (or was that salesmen you were deriding? I've no problem with that ;-) )

I will be driving into Boulder next Tuesday or Wednesday. I will have my digital camera with me to document what I find at the two addresses. I tried both phone numbers. One was not answered (website phone number) the other was a different company (the one listed above).

Yes, it kind of makes you wonder, especially since the guy posts an identical post in ANOTHER vectrix thread. Doesn't make EVC look better at all.

About the background of Vectrix, they were aircraft engineers from Lockhead. (Nothing wrong with that, many existing vehicle manufacturers derived from the aircraft industry. Vespa/Piaggio is one example.)

Regarding ACTUAL mileage and the problems Vectrix is having that they are not advertising to the public, if you don't believe me this is okay with me, I don't need you to believe me, but I felt compelled that you be aware)

Yes, it kind of makes you wonder, especially since the guy posts an identical post in ANOTHER vectrix thread. Doesn't make EVC look better at all. (the guy or "girl" who posts an exact or another comment on another vectrix thread, STILL doesn't take away from what the truth is..... truth is the truth no matter how many times it's said. Evc still needs to prove themselves yes this is tru, BUT at least give them a chance!)

About the background of Vectrix, they were aircraft engineers from Lockhead. (Nothing wrong with that, many existing vehicle manufacturers derived from the aircraft industry. Check it out for yourself, since you are having a hard time believing the truth. Call the company, get the background on who's running the company. I dont dislike Vectrix, BUT they are not being run by anyone I would have confidence in...)

Folks you are so worked up about finding out Evc address and such, it would seem to make more sense to let them get their product out to market and then judge them on that, and check your facts first about Vectrix, they have a good product, but it still needs lots of work....
