Re: Deafscooter Build off "Limo Monster Scooter"#2

Matt,

Wouldn't a simple switch between the battery and the controller accomplish the same thing? If you can break the circuit why bother with a solenoid? I'd need to flick a switch for the solenoid anyways to shunt the power to it instead of the motor ... why not just flick a switch to just break the circuit all together?

ngocthach1130,

same question ... if there's a switch that breaks the circuit doesn't that do the same thing? I don't see the need for the solenoid ...

total weight is ~170 lbs ... we way overshot the weight limit I specified at the beginning. I won't be able to lift it free hand, but I will still be able to lift it with a weight strap to anchor it to my wrist. My grip strength fails about about 140.

Yes a switch like you said accomplish the same thing. But it's a very bad idea since switch mean you have to break a connection and exented those 2 wires all the way to your handle bar. ---------------break switch break-----------. Not a good idea when dealing with huge current that scooter is running on. Because as you know even wires have resistance in it. the longer the wire the larger the resistance. So you might get heat issues

solenoid is like a switch too. but imagine the toggle switch is a wire that extend to your handle bar. leaving the switch really close between the controller and battery. The less wire running between the controller and battery the better. Same for between motor and controller. Usually they call it a relay. you flip a switch on your handle bar and that switch control the coil in the solenoid to pull another switch. One reason that's better is the switch on your handle bar might run at 5v while the solenoid switch running at the motor run huge voltage. You'll get spark and it's much safer for you to be pulling the smaller switch and let the solenoid handle the larger voltage wouldn't you think. Not sure but solenoid might be able to pull the 2 connection together quicker than you can. THat might reduce spark. Don't quote me on that though.

Same apply to houses in poorer country. They use massive switch the size of books to cut off power to their house instead of breaker like you do. Every time you pull it though you get massive spark. Pretty dangerous doing that. Now if you have a smaller switch which won't spark that control a solenoid to pull that big switch it'll be safer.

PS holy crap 170 pounds. still it's a scooter might be a bother to carry it, but you could alway kick scoot it when you want small movement like on train. It's beautiful btw.

ngocthach1130,

thanks ... I *think* I understand now.

The problem is we never talked about any solenoid when we designed the scooter ... and now we have to figure out how to strap on a solenoid last minute ... Craig's been good about trying to figure out some slapdash ways to put it in, but doing so destroys the whole reason I paid up to begin with. Not sure what to do here ...

Re: Deafscooter Build off "Limo Monster Scooter"#2

i wouldn't worry about it though. It won't be huge contraption. Some change you'll notice is a tiny switch at the handle bar. The unit will be hidden somewhere inside the scooter. Granted there will be extra wires strung but being safe is better than sorry. The speed he's claiming is pretty dangerous. I was crossing the street before going about 20mph on my scooter when some lady blocked the sidewalk. My kill switch built on my brake broke the day before so when i brake it didn't cut power and i went slamming into the car. I felt it for a week or so. In the future you might be able to work out some type of momentary switch. One you press and it cut power rather than a toggle switch. But that's complicated

Re: Deafscooter Build off "Limo Monster Scooter"#2

Deafscooter Finished Bench Test on Speed Controller, Monster motor also hook up safety issue Solenoid
then testing running smooth then put all items to Limo Frame then rewire for testing on road test with
"weak link wire cable" on near solenoid allow weak for safety issue to ride and let weak link get heat up
i use old 24 volts batteries pack on frame and lifing the scooter on Solid Block wood & the wheel off from
ground then see how it running after flick switch on handle bar it show Normal ( no happen in all ) the motor
not spinning until i touch the throttle to rise slow speed to middle fast spinning tire .... then i put the limo
to shut off safety by flick swith off and it safety to shut down and deafscooter move the scooter on ground
and ride very slow with little throttle then rise it get power push to 25 mph ( carefully & ready to shut down)
reach 30 mph then keep ride for near 1.75 miles around street then i check on weak link wire get heat up ..
and show little drain down from battery charged then let it rest for night then later i re fine the cable & wire
will dress inside the limo scooter and final test with thick wire and hawker AGM Battery in limo scooter later

Re: Deafscooter Build off "Limo Monster Scooter"#2

Here is explain you about what is " weak link wire cable " reason help to know what get heat up small wire
=================================================================

( The weak link wire cable ) like  A fuse in an electric circuit intentionaly provides a weak link.
 If a short occurs, a properly configured fuse will blow before any damage is done to the wiring
or component(s).  A short-circuit with no fuse or a wrong fuse may result in melted insulation,
smoke, and possibly an electrical fire.

Another idea Craig and I were just talking about is putting a switch near the back that I could depress with my foot that could be a cut off ...

The foot press to power cut off ( red knob like door knob (about 2 inche dia on red button )
and the bigger switch handle to 250 amps to shut down when press button in Turn off power
( like foot press to shut down the motor ) the price about $155.00 no key to $240.00 w key
it real bigger than Deafscooter's suggust is solenoid package just flick switch on handlebar.....

Deafscooter draw the idea for what customer want me to put the panic button on rear of limo ???
it will show extra about 3 inches longer than shorter what customer request is 51 inches (52 inche)

it will more longer to 54 or 55 inches on extra for rear end cut off like this door knob red button ???

The Leland should know by now to listen to Craig. Especially now that the scooter is for all practical purposes complete. It is a real pain to add features to something that has already been thoughtfully constructed. If I were having Craig make this for me, I would give him Carte Blache. His long list of completed projects show that he is the best judge of how to put these scooters together. You will have a better scooter if you just let Craig do his thing. That's my own damned opinion and I'm sticking with it. Ha!

Re: Deafscooter Build off "Limo Monster Scooter"#2

Deafscooter Install Heat sensor Equipment to Monster Motor for prevent from damage
from overheated or abuse motor ( very expesives to fix or Replacment from Burned.. )
-
====================================================
The Heat Sensor consists of a temperature-sensitive bimetal disc, electrically isolated
from the switch, which actuates the normally closed contacts.
The contacts open when the surface or ambient temperatures increase to the operating
snap point of the calibrated disc. Response to temperature changes is extremely rapid
due to the inherently low mass of the disc and the small size of the product.

-

====================================================
It Requier Hooked to Soleniod Assembly wire up to heat sensor eqipment attach the Motor
-
Temsen.jpg
====================================================

If tampered on sensor asembly & it would very cost to damaged motor, Craig not fix it,

Deafscooter (Craig),

I don't know why you would remove the images because anyone who might want to copy them has already saved a copy to their computer. Removing the images does nothing but keep the rest of us from seeing your work I think you should bring them back so we can all learn from your experience. That is the one reason this forum is here.

Thanks,
Chas

Yeah, no kidding. Very few amateurs could match you in skill. More importantly, no amateur could possibly match your equipment. You have some seriously pricy stuff.

Re: Deafscooter Build off "Limo Monster Scooter"#2

Being an artist/craftsman in wood back in my early days I would become absolutely paranoid when I heard someone say they could make what I was making. If anyone pointed a camera at my work on display at art fairs, I would chase them off. Now, many years down the road, I have realized that most of this was just talk. And even those who may have copied some of my work, it never impacted me at all. I do high quality work and my customers come to me for that. To Craig I would say, just keep doing your work as well as you do and you will always have as many customers as you want. If I were a better metalworker and welder, I could copy your last scooter at least "visually", but I could never get close to what you have done on the inside. I think you've come a long way in letting everyone see how you bring a project to fruition. I don't think you have any reason to fear real competition from anybody, esp. some kid with a big mouth. Why not even challenge someone to match your work skills? I doubt anyone would or could. Even with some pictures deleted, this thread has been very revealing and informative for me. Once you add a tubing bender to your inventory of tools, you'll be the Bomb!
