Availability of mods to Schwinn Fusion 1000

Does anybody know what, if any, modifications can be done to the schwinn Fusion 1000. I still have it in the box from Costco. I have a friend that has a Stealth and stock it clocked at 22mph! The fact she is in the same weight catagory of a teacup poodles
So is there a controller or a motor that can be exchanged to give it a little more speed. I know I could attempt to go Deafscooter on it, and attempt mod it until my wife tells me she wont ride it cause i've goofed with too much. Leaving it stock and chugging along is torture Your help on this matter is greatly appreciated!
Caio, Ruprek

how fast are you looking to go? stock controller can take 48v easily. Just add another battery matching that of the 3 already existed. Doing so will boost about 5mph or so. The power switch is a hit and miss though. Sometime it'll work and sometime it won't. You'll have to toggle till the led on the throttle goes on. When it is on though it'll remain on so don't worry about it turning off midway. tncscooters.com sell 48v controller if you want to give that a try. Since it accept 48v as standard rating you could pump in 60v. Haven't tried that yet though. You might have to invest in some 12v computer blower to cool your motor. That mean drilling into it. That's my next project when the weather get warmer. 28mph is the goal for me. Oh btw, another advantage of 48v is you get brief wheelie if you throw the throttle on full from stop.

Re: Availability of mods to Schwinn Fusion 1000

Thanks for the advise, but I'm confused by what you meant about the "power button". I assumed extra battery would be wired along with the other three batteries through the controller. The power button sounds like a jolt of juice on the fly set up? Am I missing something??
Also, has anyone figured out a way to grease the gearbox on these things without pulling it apart? Installing a zerk fitting to add grease gets it in there, but how do you evacuate the old grease so the gearbox isnt too full? I tried to convert and old gearbox I had using gear oil, but the seals did not hold up well and it leaked like a sieve.

no i'm talking about the switch on the frame near the charger plug. If you add another battery to the string to get 48v, getting the controller to accept it is tricky. You have to toggle that switch until the LED lights on the throttle goes on. After it's on it'll stay on so you won't have to worry about it cutting out.
