Conversion difficulty question- brushed scooter to Emax

Folks,

I have an Evader E100S. Even at 60v, I can barely make 30 mph. A member has some parts for an Emax Sport for sale. Unfortunately, the info I have found indicates the Emax is brushless.

Not knowing anything about the wiring of the Emax controller, how difficult would it be to adapt an Emax controller and motor to an Evader?

Thanks!

Les

It shouldn't be difficult at all, assuming the hub motor will physically fit on the rear fork and you have some electrical and electronic experience. I assume the Evader also used the standard 0 to 5k throttle pot. If you are going to run it at 60 volts, the controller needs some modifications - all the 63 volt aluminum electrolytic capacitors on the board have to be upgraded to 100 volts - 5 of them total. There is also an amperage upgrade for more power. If you haven't found it yet, info on the mods are here:

The Evader throttle is the 3-wire, 0-5v hall effect-type.

Nice thing about the Evader was that the capacitors were 75v.

Thanks!

PJD,

I tried to look at the circuit diagrams and was not able to find them on 1GigFree.

I am sorry to say the EV Collaborative Handbooks links are not up to date however, you can access the information from the V is for Voltage EV DownLoad Library.

Much better! Thanks!

Hmm, conflict already! PJD, a respected contributor, stated that the throttle is a 0-5k resistive unit but the wiring diagram shows a hall effect throttle, 0-5v I assume. Makes the conversion more do-able since the Evader uses the hall effect throttle.

Re: Conversion difficulty question- brushed scooter to Emax

les,

One of the diagrams labels the throttle "hall handle" but in another diagram (the one named "circuit diagram complete" it is depicted as a potentiometer. But come to think of it, I never actually took a resistance measurement across it to to see if it was a pot. Come to think of it, with all the constant use, a pot for a throttle might not last very long.

Just to be safe, I'd get the throttle from the cannibalized e-max.

Thanks, PJD! The seller must be reading this thread because he just offered the motor, controller and throttle as a package. $750 is more than my bike may be worth, at least to me.
