The pink wire is tie wrapped against the sheet metal.

Green wire is #10, big red wire is #8, the red one with the mangled connector is exactly as it came off my Z20b. Is it #8 you decide.

Anyone care to estimate, how long my scooter would run; before, it would go up in flames, if these things weren't fixed? Don C. just keep driving your scooter and we will all see, if your batteries don't die first.

Re: Z20b wiring from the factory

My Z20a is also missing the grommet. If that wire is cut by the sheet metal, could it short and do some serious damage?

Thanks for pointing this out. When I was tracing the wiring I saw this but assumed it was OK. I'm a total n00b at this electronics magic - so all the pointers are greatly appreciated.

I picked up a pack of the rubber grommets at Fleet Farm ($0.99) and will add it tomorrow.

Has somebody already started a list of items that need recalled? It's one thing for the bike to not work - it's completely another for your bike to possibly catch fire or electrocute you.

When checking the wiring connections on my Z20a, these 2 wires literally fell out of the breaker switch. Nice!
Whoever was securing these wires had to of noticed a problem, considering the gap that exists in the switch box because the screw wasn't positioned properly. The quality control is just amazing.

Only a fool would drive a Z/R20, without removing all the covers and checking everything. There was no QA, if they attempted to test them, fewer would have been DOA.

Re: Z20b wiring from the factory

I'm starting to think my Z20 hates me. Every time I get a chance to work it, I find another issue.

Today I was wiring my Z20 for bank charging/paktracker, and I noticed that the male connector on the wire to disconnect the series charger is charred/damaged. It's female connector is fine. I didn't think to look to see if it was in this condition when I first disconnected it to remove the seat. It's a bit hard to tell so I can't be 100% sure, but from the pics I took that day it does appear to have been a preexisting condition.

I'm almost positive I couldn't have caused it to short. The breaker has always been in the off position, I haven't attempted to start the bike or used the series charger since I got it. I never heard any sparking or saw any smoke in the 45 minutes between disconnecting this connector, getting the seat removed, and disconnecting a battery cable. Since then (1 week) a battery cable has been removed to prevent any shorts.

Can I just replace this connector with a new one, or is this a sign that something else might also be fried?
Is there a safer type of connector to use that won't fry like this?

(This is my first fried electronics component so I had to get lots of closeups :))
