Do you have the batteries connected to the frame? If so remove that connection, a frame connection on an e-bike is not needed, you may have a short if a positive wire is touching the frame somewhere. Other than that without more information on the motor, controller, and other parts I am at a loose to your problem.

Hi. No the batteries are not connected to the frame. they are in a box, which slides on to a plastic holder.which bolts onto a alloy rack.the electrics are off a E-Zee bike which broke the seat tube. John
Maybe I am missing something here. When the batteries are on the bike it will not drive the motor and when removed and placed on the ground with wires connected to the batteries the motor runs? Is this right?
Chas S.
Hi.Yes
I would be checking the wiring on the bike there is a bad connection or you are shorting the battery pack. Place a meter on the battery output and turn on the main power switch, if the voltage drops rapidly you have a short.
