Re: [ThunderSky] LFP in USA

Has anyone gotten any small-quantity quotes from international battery?

Thundersky LiFePO4 cells are also available from Electric Motorsport. $100 each for the 40AH cells.

http://www.electricmotorsport.com/store/ems_ev_parts_batteries_thunder_sky.php

Limited quantities may also still be available from Patrick Rentsch in the SF bay area for a bit cheaper.

Re: [ThunderSky] LFP in USA

I haven't but I wanted to mention that in the thundersky group a followup email questioned if/when/ever will the international battery begin construction.

There was also a most interesting message from Cedric Lynch:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ThunderSky/message/1473

(He's the designer of the Lynch motor, which inspired the Etek & Perm motors) He was opining on the difficulty for individuals to gain access to advanced battery technologies. The main companies like SAFT won't sell to individuals etc and it would prevent the modern day equivalent of the Wright Brothers from tinkering in their shops and creating what their vision sees. He described how most of the battery companies are instead working with the modern day equivalent of Samuel Langley, and if you remember your history, Langley used all his power and position of holding government office to prevent any other flight research than his own design ideas, but his ideas kept crashing while these two tinkerers from Ohio showed him up.

Re: [ThunderSky] LFP in USA

Dave,

With regard to battery technology and EV inventors, the Wright Brothers/Langley analogy has been on my mind for some time now.

But it goes beyond just small inventors and to every other kind of small enterprise.

My wife's family runs a small sewing machine and vacuum cleaner business, but that have been practically run out of business because few of the quality vacuum cleaner manufacturers will sell their product in quantities smaller than thousands of units.

I bought my Thundersky pack from Patrick a couple months ago, but I'm unable to find a suitable BMS unit. My entire expensive project is currently hanging by a thread due to lack of a suitable BMS. everything is hinging on a retired EE living in Oregon, who has developed a good device, but is hindered by severe back pain problems and the loss of the partner of the venture who was going to do most of the assembly and marketing. Other potential sources don't even return e-mails.

This is the problem across the board! When I bought my BB SLAs I even had trouble getting companies to return my calls and emails for quotes.

PJD, keep us posted on your progress! Once one of us gets it done right, the rest of us can all follow the model.

Not to mention an unreliable internet service provider. Let's hope Bob gets at least one of these problems solved soon so we can get the final word on his and Gary's BMS...

Other potential sources don't even return e-mails.

No kidding. This is an endemic problem...

Re: [ThunderSky] LFP in USA

Hi all
Regarding thundersky and li-ion batteries.

I am from Australia and have spent 6 months sourcing OEM power solutions from all over the world.
and possible alternatives to thundersky.

Australian suppliers:
1. thundersky only.

American suppliers.
1. don't reply or
2. claim to have no stock for overseas consumers.

European suppliers.
1. Don't reply

Chinese suppliers.
1. Give me different answers everytime i contact them or
2. Quote me outrageously cheap prices that seem suspicious?
3. send me pictures of thundersky batteries or similar looking models.
4. Ask me to send drawings of what i am developing !!! ( Come on - really - you silly little man!)
5. Send me quotes for Li-Ion packs with pictures of Li-Polymer packs.

I Have enclosed a link below of the last source i looked at:
http://www.saip.cn/products.php?parid=463

This company (Saip) has made me curious ( or suspicious to be frank) - i received from them a PDF spec that is an exact copy of the thundersky spec except for the LOGO etc.

1.Any body know of this company (Saip)?
2. is 'Ningbo thundersky green power sources' the same as 'thundersky energy group'?
3. are 'Worley energy cells' actually 'thundersky'??

Is it just me or are all of us getting screwed sideways with misinformation ?

Re: [ThunderSky] LFP in USA

Hello EVenergy--- I have been using saip products for a while stay away. I have had many things shipped broken or just missing. I have had Turbines the come that look water damaged and I know for a fact they are a supplier not a manufacture of batteries. I know this is late but I hope it helps you.

This looks like another Chinese manufacturer that may or may not be able to be useful for EV builders:

Having just had a very unpleasant experience with a company in China I have decided to find a new source for my packs.
So far I have had no real success. Here's some criteria that I need filled before I will waste any more $$
1. References with at least 3 US users who have purchased packs/batteries in last 12 months.
2. Can I visit your factory. Unless you are willing to check out exactly what you are buying this is only way , you have to go and see for yourself.
3. The specs/drawings/photos are all unreliable and can be of anything they want to show you.
4. QC do not expect any and you won't be surprised.
5. Testing.. do not expect that there has been any testing . Data is extrapolated from other sources.
6. Guarantees.. unless you buy from a US company who will still be around when your packs die do not attach any value to this.
7. It is a great pity that homebuilders and small biz cannot get reliable batteries.
8. I am still searching for 50 volt x 20 AH packs, ideas anyone?

dw,

or some reason i saw 40Ah

What is this referring to?

i originally suggested going to EVcomponents and getting 16 x TS 40Ah cells and a BMS, since they are a US company and do honor warranties.

but the pack is twice the size you asked for...
