Last weeks comic strip, showed "Stage 5" being the guy taking a sledge hammer to a small plug-in electric, with hippie-style flowers, in his garage.
I don't read the comic strips that often but last week it looked like Mr. Breathed had moved right and was mocking the whole idea or energy conservation.
But, he had to drag out the good'ol, orientalist, Arab caricature. Aren't they just selling their oil for what the commodities markets are setting it at?
And no, just to make it clear, the producers and sellers of Arabian oil do not finance terrorism in any way. But, at the prodding of the US and international finance, they have impoverished their working people and crushed every progressive Arab movement - because they were "socialist" and not sufficiently friendly to Israel's colonization of Palestine. This left only religious fundamentalism (like much of the USA?), then terrorist violence (except for Oklahoma City, not like the USA - yet) as the outlet for their grievances.
Read Edward Said's stuff, and John Perkin's "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man"
I love this cartoon - I was out on vacation and when I came back someone had pinned this to the outside of my cube! It's still there and still getting comments (it's right next to my Bush countdown clock - which is definitely against company policy but don't tell anyone, OK?)
:-)
