Why are the 4 wires on li-on battery pack?

I know two are for positive and negative, but what about the two others? are they used to for monitor current or something else? what are those two wires called?

Thanks

It's a 3s string, I'm assuming. There's a wire in between each cell connection so the charger can monitor individual cell voltage and keep the pack balanced.
