Re: Xtreme has a new motorcycle XM-5000Li

I posted about this yesterday - http://visforvoltage.org/forum/5384-new-xm5000li-coming-3-weeks

So I scooped you ;) But well spotted.

They're not actually in stock yet. They are on the boat - they will be here around December 20th.

I can take pre-orders for these bikes at http://www.revevllc.com/contact.php (just send me a note via that page - I don't have the order page up yet).

Just a suggestion: don't let anyone actually buy one of these until after Jan 1st. If the battery pack is over 4kWh (and going to the 60ah batteries should get it there), the bike may become eligible for a $2,500 federal tax credit for plug-in vehicles. That would be a huge discount.

My electric vehicle: CuMoCo C130 scooter.

Very good point. But, do you know how one actually goes about claiming that tax credit? I wrote to my local representatives and asked but got no reply :(

Also, is it a refundable tax credit? The way it was explained to me was if I owe $2,000 dollars in tax then a refundable tax credit will mean that the IRS sends me a check for $500 - whereas with a non-refundable one the "extra" $500 is "wasted".

Re: Xtreme has a new motorcycle XM-5000Li

I'm pretty sure we'll have to do some research before we can claim the credit, but I know it won't apply to vehicles purchased this year.

I'm getting a $1,300 tax credit on my new Volkswagen Jetta TDI, as an 'Advanced Lean Burn Technology' vehicle. As best I can tell, there will be a line on the 1040 form that lets you just enter the amount. But in this case, the IRS has already certified that my VW is eligible, so I have no real paperwork burden.

For our electric scooters, it looks like the manufacturer has to get the vehicle certified first, then we can claim the credit. I'd think Xtreme would find it very worthwhile to pursue that option, since it'll really help sales. I'd expect that they could get it certified anytime in 2009 and our purchase would be counted.

As for the credit itself, my understanding is that it essentially counts as 'tax paid'. So if you had $10k in total tax liability for the year, your employer withheld exactly $10k, you'd figure out your taxes on April 15 and get a refund for $2,500, since you 'overpaid' by that much. On the other hand, if you had no income to speak of, so you owed no taxes, then the credit would be lost. (But I'm not a tax lawyer, so this is just my understanding)

I read the credit only applied to 4 wheel vehicles, so make sure to get it straight before you start spending that $2500 credit!

Re: Xtreme has a new motorcycle XM-5000Li

Well fancy that a newer & larger model. I will have $6000 to $7000 into my bike by the time I get done with it, but I will have better parts as far as the controller and DC/DC converter are concerned and more batteries. It will be interesting to see what the stats are on this bike and how it will sell in this economy and with the price of gas way down now(on their website they have 14 bikes left in the red and blue models and 20 left in the black which probably means that they have sold 7 each of the red and blue). John, as you wrote in your post earlier today, and as many of us have said before: going over 55 mph in a bike with this small of a frame is not a good idea in fact it is down right unsafe. This is my direct experience on my own bike going down hill hitting 50mph.(that's the only way the stock XM3500 is ever going to get there) and that's not even having a semi rig buzz by you on the freeway in one of these bikes yikes! Please do not let your enthusiasm for this new product go against good safety sense. Your response please concerning safety?

John, On a more positive note, thank you so much for all the information you have given me/us about the larger hub motor, and other components in your last post. Especially with your experimenting with your XM4500 mod that is pushing the limits for us all to learn from. I called up the Kelly guy and he said that he can get me a 6000kw 72Volt hub motor in a couple of weeks for $499 + shipping. He also said he felt it would handle well over 90Volts which is my guess too. That is all I want, to just go a little over 50mph and have plenty of juice to go farther with 28cells. Once again I would like to thank you John for all your information and for your commitment to the "cause". Best Mikie

Re: Xtreme has a new motorcycle XM-5000Li

Mikie - is that 6kW motor in a 13" rim? The one currently on their website (and in our shop!) is a 10" rim. If they do offer a 6kW in a 13" rim then please can you let me know - we'd like to try it too. Many thanks for your kind words.
