Vectrix folder over 500 topics!

Dear web-masters,
The vectrix Folder is now over 500 topics. It's getting quite challenging for me to find old topics inside all these 500 entries.

Maybe it's time to think about a new improving way to list the topics... I'm not thinking about subfolders... maybe assigning a "category", a label to every topic, and then applying a label filter will help to list only these matching topics.
Regards,

reikiman

Re: Vectrix folder over 500 topics!

You Vectrix people have been busy.. And unfortunately the search box only provides a certain amount of help.

It is possible to add further categorization and I do agree that adding sub-folders isn't the ideal method. The site supports two styles of category styles.

  • Tags: Each person picks the category name they want, and it can be any category name they like
  • Predefined: A predefined list of category names is available for use

Blog posts on this site use the 'tag' style of category. Unfortunately it seems most don't grok how to make good category names. I'm leery of doing that again and prefer to come up with a set of category names.

Can you suggest some useful category names?

That's some work, but as Volttour forum's also needs the same improvement , Visforvoltage will perform as "el conillet d'indies!"
;-)
Me and my brother Aleix will try to sort out something useful... Stay tunned.

Maybe it's just time that people realize that this is exactly the purpose of the "Collaborative Handbook"!

But we need some more collaborators!

Not everything on a forum is worth the effort of archiving it in a search-able format, of course. But those threads that actually achieve something (that is likely to be of use later on) should be re-sorted into the handbook. And re-written in a more comprehensible way, until it is just right!

I have laid the foundations, but I will most likely not continue to do this much longer!

Andy1 has recently posted a nice (partial) summary of the issues surrounding the disappearing bars etc.... that could be copied and posted into a new Handbook page, followed by links to previous posts that relate to or back up the content of the page. Of course, cautions and alternate views and opinions should also be mentioned if there have been significant and reasonable opposing views!

This is not an easy task, it takes time and dedication, as well as a fairly high level of skill and intelligence to do it right! You got to be confident, too, because you are putting the stuff out for the world to see, so to say!

As the expiry of the warranty for all the existing VX-1's is approaching rapidly (personally I think it's been here for a while!), there will be no more "special status" for me and the "Vectux"!

And my preparedness to step up to the mark and spend unreasonable amounts of time on the subject is going to dwindle rapidly, I fear.

.

You don't need any special permission to start working on the Handbook - just a bit of clicking around will teach you how it works!

And if you are a sensible member of this forum (most of you are!), then I'm sure that Reikiman will be all too happy to give you permission to re-sort handbook pages (or to put other forum pages into handbooks)!

Get going with it! There have been obviously well informed people signing up and posting in the last few days, weeks and months; they are not in positions to start writing manuals and handbooks, but they seem willing to help others to do it well!
.

What are you all waiting for?
