LifePo4 for Vectrix

Many of you are interested in upgrading the Vectrix to LifePo4. Apparently, Vectrix has done that already for test purposes before they went under and some of you may have been involved with these test in the past. If you look at the following link, and scroll down a page you will see reference to this company having produced a BMS for the Vectrix.

Maxi scooter
Elithion designed a custom BMS controller for the manufacturer of the Li-Ion pack for this electric Maxi Scooter. NOTE: Elithion only designed part of the BMS (not the complete battery); Elithion does not and cannot sell Vectrix users replacement batteries.

I called them to find out the scoop and got some very interesting information.
1. They did indeed design a BMS that communicates via canbus with the charger, and this was a custom development and hence cannot simply be duplicated and sold again since Vectrix own that.
2. Apparently, the reason Vectrix did not go forward with this because the GB Lifepo4 batteries did not live up to the test. So we must assume that an implementation of LifePo4 from GB for the Vectrix is not imminent or need different batteries.
3. However, this company could provide a custom BMS that does not infringe on the Vectrix IP by using an intermediary logic board that would communicate with the Vectrix canbus to be used in conjunction with Thundersky 40Ah batteries. The development of this system would only make sense for them if they have a large number of customers actually willing to purchase this system. I did receive a quote which comes to $700/system with the customer providing the batteries, but that was based on 100 transactions. That would be a steal but how can one get 100 committments for this transaction.

Look at the photos on the link above. It shows a 2009 Vectrix with installation of LifePo4s and their BMS.

Re: LifePo4 for Vectrix

US$700 a system is fairly cheap as BMS go.

perhaps we could get EVcomponents in on this, as they seem to have a fair bit of capital.
