Are Vectrixes desirable?

So, are Vectrixes desirable to thieves?

Yes they most certainly are! Perhaps as spare parts.

Yesterday I rode to a potential employer to hand deliver my CV. I was in the building for 5 minutes and came out to find a large white van parked up to my bike, doors open wide and my shackle lock picked and lying on the ground. Of course you first think. "Did I lock it properly?" Etc. etc. After realising that no way could the lock have fallen and been in that position, I looked around and put two and two together. The two scumbags in the van were displaying very guilty body language and looking anywhere but in my direction.

I reckon I was seconds away from losing my beautiful bike, that is if they could have lifted it into the vehicle, of course, they may have had a ramp. Jeez, can you have nothing nice in this world?

I was particularly irritated, as earlier on that day some scrap metal mongrels in a pickup truck were stopped from stealing a central heating boiler from my front garden. (I'm having some plumbing work done) The cheek of it when I confronted them. "Why do you need that anyway?" "Because it's mine and you didn't ask permission first!" I replied. I found out that heat exchangers alone can be worth up to £50 as there is so much brass and copper in them.

So in these times of recession, even the scumbag thieving wretches are feeling the pinch it seems. Twice in one day!

Grrrrrrrrrr

Yep, that's why I have mine insured. 300 EUR covers everything, including theft, damage, wreck. It's worth it for a peace of mind :-)

Re: Are Vectrixes desirable?

My insurance was 250GBP for the first year, but the second year it was only 125GBP. Maybe it's not always a rip off in the UK after all.

At least there's one good thing about the Vectrix; you can't just pick it up and walk off with it...

Re: Are Vectrixes desirable?

Mine (UK) is insured for £105 per year - fully comprehensive so covered for theft, accident and all the rest.

Luckily I am always in places where it would be virtually impossible to steal, either on MoD sites or at my home which has not seen a burglary of anything in the past 15 years (as long as one of the oldest residents has lived there)

Still, I believe I have been simmply lucky so far. One day my turn will come :(

I believe the Insurance Broker that you refer to above is 'The Electric Scooter Insurance Co' which are part of West Humberstone Agencies. You can call them on 0800 1970453. Ask for Andy Miller and mention Lean Machines. Andy is well versed in Vectrix (and electric scooters generally) and he will be pleased to give you a quotation.

That's who I am with - top marks to them.

None of this "We specialise in electric scooters, whats a Vectrix" rubbish I got from some other companies I tried first..

Re: Are Vectrixes desirable?

Here in British Columbia, Canada I'm still paying $930, or 545 Pounds, per year for collision and comprehensive to our nationalized monopoly public insurance corporation, ICBC. I think I enjoy the dubious distinction of being the highest paying Vectrix owner on the planet for insurance.

Re: Are Vectrixes desirable?

Heee, Here in Israel the insirance cost is SO HIGH that people is protesting in the parliament!.
Just to give you an idea, you need a 'basic' compullsive insurance for circulation, wich cost about US 1250.
Now, if you also want an additional agains damage caused to other people, you need to add about other 200-250 $.
Full insurance? NOBODY DOES IT, it will cost about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price of a new bike... no kidding...

Re: Are Vectrixes desirable?

Are those rates based on living in a "war zone"?

I spent some time in Israel, back in the 80s. I was working on a project with the Elbit guys up in Haifa. Great bunch of guys there. Except when they'd start speaking in Hebrew and we couldn't understand them. We finally started speaking in Pig Latin and it was driving them crazy.
