I am going to attempt to open my battery box to measure the dimensions of the batteries and the inside dimensions of the space available in the box for alternative batteries. Does anyone who has done this have any do's or don'ts or how-to's for opening the battery enclosure? Thanks.

The opening of the battery enclosure was uneventful. Pretty much a no-brainer. Just remove all the screws and it will come apart. The Kung Long WP9-12TE battery dimensions can be found at http://www.setronic.dk/Service/LONG/SLA.pdf or http://shop.contrel.com/downloads/tech_info/LONG/WP9-12TE.pdf
The space available in the enclosure for batteries is 9.0 x 4.0 x 4.5 inches.

Hello, I just took my battery pack apart also. I really would rather not cut the battery packs apart and try to wire in new batteries. Can anyone tell me of an alternative battery pack that will fit in the battery case? I'm a novice at ebikes. Rich
Interesting. I just dug out my Merida Bike battery and tried re-charging it. After 3 days of charging and the battery case feeling quite warm and it outputting less than a volt on my meter I unscrewed all the screws and took my case apart. The two batteries were all swollen and mishapen. I am quite certain they are shot. I too am thinking about lighter weight alternatives. I'd like to fill the case with some light weight Nickel Hydride batteries I think. Any ideas are welcome. I am getting ready to go on vacation and probably won't be able to do anything until I get back. I was planning on taking this bike with us on vacation but it doesn't look good. I'm not taking it without the battery assist working.
