The BUB Speed Trials ended today ... and the Lightning Motors team took their land speed record even higher. It turns out that MotoCzysz was also there attempting to get the speed record, but Lightning totally trounced them.
At the end of the day the record stood at 173 miles/hr (averaged over two runs) with the highest speed being 176 miles/hr. This is with the bike they raced at VIR two weeks ago. According to Richard, the FIM says it's never been done before where a road bike has come directly from winning a road race to going on the salt for a land speed record. The motorcycles that go for land speed records are usually highly modified extremely specialized for the speed record purpose, totally unlike road bikes.
