hey there all. i searched for this and tried to gleen it from battery university, but i think a lot of it is over my head. i have a 17Ah 24V LiFePO4 pack and i'm not sure if i need to discharge it completely before charging or charge after every use. do i need to pull them off the charger when they reach 100%?
any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Hopbot,
A LiFePO4 battery is no memory effect, so you can recharge whenever you want. Since deepcharge reduces life time, just like to any other types of battery, it is a good idea recharge every time after used. If the charger reach 100% you should remove the battery. However, many charger only gives a tiny green indicator when charge rate reached 80% or higher, so you might need to leave it longer to make sure full recharge. A good charger comes with overcharge protection. That gets you problem free even if forgot overnight.

thanks Jay, that clarifies my confusion.

I was told by our technical people that I should initial discharge them at 1C before starting to use them. The low cutoff voltage of single cell is at 2.0V, so the whole packs should be 24*2= 48V when I initial the discharge. So that the battery packs could still provide 800 cycles in the future. By the way, the LiFePO4 packs I use is 36v/15ah/2c.
