How to post EVT 4000e service manual PDF?

Hey guys,

some time ago I found a service manual for the EVT 4000e on the web. It's not great, but it does have some useful information in a language not too far from English. How can I post it to share with the Forum?

Crusher,

Thanks for the help we would love to post another manual. The only manual we have on the e-max so far is the specification manual. Please send the manual to our Moderator Captain ILBCNU and he will see that it is posted to the EV DownLoad Library.

Thanks again,
Chas S.

Chas,

I've sent a couple of messages to ILBCNU asking this same question, but received no reply. Also, I don't see any way to attach a file to a message sent via the Forum's contact page. That's why I started this topic. What should I try next?

Hey, I hope you can handle a 3.5 MB .pdf I created just now of the X-Treme XM-2000 manual. I was just about to tell Crusher here about the other email address when the email I sent got rejected. So, I've just sent it to your sbcglobal account as well.

COPYRIGHTS!!!!!

What about copyrights? Do you have permission from the copyright holder to republish their work? Are you sure you want to put this site at risk by republishing copyrighted works without permission?

Re: COPYRIGHTS!!!!!

I would assume that if there were copyrights involved, it would be copyrighted. Nowhere in the manual does it mention any copyrights. I haven't posted it either, so don't get in a twist about it. I emailed it to the moderator and he can do with it what he wants.

Only a link will be posted on this site to our file share library which is another site the Moderator Team has especially for this purpose.
FWIW, we do have appropriate legal counsel and liability coverage if a problem arisess.
Again thanks for sharing, your generosity will go a long way helping other EV enthusiast like youself who may have purchase a used EV with no Owners Manuel or lost there Owners Manuel.

Crusher300,
My bad, the one I just received was from someone else, a XM-2000 manual. Unless you sent it to ILBCNU private email, he probally will not receive it. If you don't mind send another one to me at board_moderator [at] sbcglobal.net.

Re: How to post EVT 4000e service manual PDF?

Hey BM,

I sent the PDF file of the service manual to the email addresses listed above and in the 'Uploading to the EV Download Page' thread. Hope it comes through and gets posted for all to see.

Regarding copyright, I found this document on the web available for download without restrictions, and there is no notice restricting use in the document, so as long as nobody is charging a fee to obtain or use the document, I believe this is considered 'fair use'. Unless EVT sends a 'cease and desist' letter, or tries to collect royalties, it's all good. That would only happen if they were charging for the document and you were selling it without their permission, thereby depriving them of income. It's a non-issue.

Re: How to post EVT 4000e service manual PDF?

Crusher300,

You are correct, this document is not sold for profit and is posted as a free download so we can post it here as well.

HOWEVER -----

I would like to clear up one item. I have seen the use of the words "Fair Use" on the site several times and it does NOT apply to this forum! The Fair Use Act was originally set forth to allow teachers to use copyrighted materials in the class room for educational purposes.

Fair Use as described on http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

Section 107 of the copyright law contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered “fair,” such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair:

1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
3. amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The distinction between “fair use” and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined. There is no specific number of words, lines, or notes that may safely be taken without permission. Acknowledging the source of the copyrighted material does not substitute for obtaining permission.

`
FWIW,
All this was thoroughly researched when we were doing our guidelines which were reviewed by our legal advisory team. They also monitor this site, if they notice any thing wrong, procedures are all ready in place to handle the problem.
The bottom line is, all we are attempting to do is make information available to the public about a EVT 4000e, if EVT wants to sue us for that, then they are shooting themselves in there own foot.
