Seems like there is quite a lot of technology out there just dying to be applied to green living. Seems like one of the biggest drawbacks to date has been low cost / high efficient / high power batteries or alternative fuel sources like hydrogen fuel cells. It also seems like Asia and Europe are way ahead of us in this area...go figure. Although I love to ride my E-Max scooter I feel like it's just wet my appetite for more! SPEED - DISTANCE - POWER. What is the next big thing on the horizon and what kind of timeline do you think we're looking at for a really all around functional "suburban" scooter?

ooppss...the drawbacks being the lack of an affordable, high efficient and powerful (not to mention light weight) battery. Looks like nanotechnology might be a move in that direction.
I don't know of any in production models, but I know there are upgrade options available from some dealers. I think the cost is still too high for scooters, but for larger vehicles they are becoming practical. Check here.
Its no kidding that nanotechnology is a step in the right direction. Its more like a giant leap. We haven't seen these kind of advancements in batteries for large scale commercial use ever. I think we are on the brink of having exactly the kind of battery we need. And believe me, I'm not one to be impressed by battery hype.

Right now the only vehicles I know of with the new batteries are the Phoenix truck and their SUV. According to rumor Chevy is looking at A123 for use in their Volt.

Talk about overkill. I don't know if they will ever achieve that many, but if they achieve 1/5 of that, it would be groundbreaking. With so many attributes nanotechnology and lithium can provide its like not only getting your cake and eating it too, its like getting a ton of cake. It is beginning to be conceivable that BEVs (battery electric vehicles) could not only compete with ICEs but become superior.

I could not agree more!!!!!!!!!! I believe the day is not far off when BEV's become the superior technology. I believe that the new cells will give the BEV the range and the quick charge capability to compete with the ICE powered cars. I would love to see more manufactures offer the Nano cell as an upgrade option but right now they are pricey at $2.00 USD per wh.
