I have a 36V 500W ebike. Here in Australia we are approaching winter & the days are getting darker earlier. I have been looking for some bike lights to run off the battery but have had trouble sourcing them. Can anyone help?

The best suggestion I have is to look for scooter lights rather than bicycle lights. Try this link LIGHTS
Cyclone 650 watt 24V trike
I put a pair of these on my big scooter, and they're phenomenal. But a single one would also work extremely well for an ebike:
Vision X Solstice Solo LED
It's a 10-watt LED, puts out 800 lumens. And the input voltage can be anything from 9 to 50V, so it can connect directly to your 36V battery. They're a little bit expensive, I'm seeing them for $119 (USD), but very rugged and well built. There's dozens of places carrying them on the web, and you can even get handlebar or helmet mounts.
Look for the model with an 'elliptical' beam pattern, it's got a wide and flat illumination pattern that is well suited for road use.
My electric vehicle: CuMoCo C130 scooter.
That wide voltage range looks exceptionally sweet to me, and I'm a NiteRider Brat,,, been using their HID lighting for years now, but at an average of a 100 USD price per year of bulb maintenance, they are expensive to run, and are VERY particular of their voltages. The tradeoff to that is they use their own batteries, but, thats another charger to set up and maintain, so , yeah, the Vision X sounds perfect! I may have to put those on my shopping list.
You can see the sort of thing I like to do here: My latest e-bicycle build
These are LED lighting units you can get at auto parts stores. Some are meant for trailers, others for accent lights. The white light bars when you use as many as I use produce prodigous quantities of light and even light up the road. It's not at all the typical dinky lights bicyclists use, but having a real quantity of light for useful lighting.
The way I figure it - we have a big battery pack so we might as well have big lights.
