E+ Electric Bicycle Review

Here is an interesting review of E+ Electric Bicycles:

cheap 700c kit?

I'm trying to make my first foray into electric bicycles and am looking for an inexpensive (entry level) kit for a bike i already have in my garage. It's an old bianchi with 700c rims. Unfortunately, I've found that many of the lower cost kits (BD24, BD36) are for 26" rims only. Can anyone point out a cheap, low assist kit for my first bike that will fit my 700c bike? or is there an easy way to make a 26" rim work on my bike?

Thanks,

Which bike is best

I have been searching everywhere for the best electric bike or electric bicycle. Every site seems to think their bike is the best. I am 62 and want to be able to peddle for exercise and have power to get home. I live in the foothills above Sacramento so need power to get me up hills. Would be nice to ride two people sometimes. It is 10 miles to the store, so I need extra mileage if possible. I do not want to license it, so nothing over 1000 watts and that is pushing the limit... Would like to be able to ride in the rain in case I get caught in a storm.

Heinzman Hub Motors

I have an old EV Global ebike that I use for parts. I am thinking of building a bike with another frame and parts from this bike. I think a Heinzman 36 volt motor will fit in this 24 volt hub. Anyone know? Is the gearing the same? Finally is there somewhere I can get new or used Heinzmann parts in the US? I'm thinking I can save a little just getting the motor, not the whole hubmotor assembly. I'm also interested in other parts like gears (especially the nylon gear) and screws.

Thanks

Bicycle safety tips

I have been seeing more and more people riding bikes, both human powered and E-bikes. I am even beginning to see people out on the avenues in small electric scooters. I think all this is really great, but it also means more inexperienced riders mixing it up with cars. I wanted to share a great website that has some detailed tips on how to make your way from point A to point B without getting run into by cars. Some of the tips he shows may have saved my life, or least prevented some broken bones.

Range for 48volt10ah Fox LiFePO4

I was told by Foxx Power that LiFEPO4 48volt 10ah batteries have twice the range of 48volt12ah lead acid batteries. I have a 16 mile commute between Burbank,CA and Pasadena,CA with some hills. I will be using a Lashout Electric bicycle with Powerpack Super BMC motor and 35amp controller. I weigh about 158 pounds. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of the range of these batteries.

Should I buy this?

I'm looking to get an electric bicycle and I need to ask a couple questions about options available locally on Craigslist. Right now I'm looking at this http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/729646519.html

The little research I've done on Currie USPD systems seems positive. Is the price right? And more importantly, how would I go about changing the battery if necessary? Particularly with the Lithium options available now. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Solar Charging

This is what I have:

x5303 rear hub motor on 26" MTB
36-72v crystalyte controller
12, 18ah sla batteries wired for 72v @ 36ah.

The question:

Can I hookup a small ( maybe 10w or so ) 12v ( or less ) solar panel to the 72v system ? This way when I am at work and the bike is outside the panel can slowly charge the batteries? I know it will not charge it up much but the question is will it work with out damaging the batteries ? I live in Arizona and the bike should get a solid 6 hours of sun.

Need a primer on batteries.

I've got a Wilderness Energy kit all-in-one, which gets me going ok, but I'm thinking of upgrading and I want to start with the batteries. I've learned a lot from this board, but am confused with voltages and Ah's. I specifically want to start with those light Lifepos. I've seen some mods with Dewalts, which are 36v, but when people power something it doesn't always get them 36v. Same with milwaukee tool 24v packs. Seems like they need 2-3 battery packs to get to the stated voltage.

some pics and stats on my twin kollmorgen home made bike.

Well my bike took me about $350 bucks to make and I'm happy with it.
Here is a partial list of parts and prices.
2 Kollmorgen motors off fleabay $98 shipping included
2 small 12v honda starter batteries from junkyard $44(i'm not running them below %50 dod so they should last a long time.
chain $10 approx.
sprocket and freewheel $30
throttle/dual pot $10
thick battery cables from junk yard $5
bike, already had it.
and I don't know why it cost me so much in the end but it did and I'm happy with it.
