Ideal acceleration and speed in the city.

I have been thinking about what it would be like with a higher top speed with Giant LaFree. Right now it tops out at like 21 MPH. On long stretches faster would be nice, but in the city I find the speed about right, but a little more acceleration might help. What happens with city riding is I find I'm back on the brakes, after reaching my top speed, for the next stop sign or light. That is why I'm thinking a little more acceleration would help.

Are normal electric bicycles usually able to ascend hills?

Hello. Using the helpful information at http://www.crystalyte.com/->"motor specs->"Hub motor simulator", I finally pulled up the data for a Golden Motor engine, 36 v, 35 amp controller for a 26 inch wheel and 115 kg(253 pounds) and did some fancy schmancy physics to set up a differential equation to describe the velocity of this bike over time, assuming it starts from a dead stop on entirely flat ground(I basically accounted for the air-drag and the torque curve over the velocity range).

I need to replace my car with an Ebike - Suggestions needed!!!!

Gas is $3.92/gal in my area and I've drawn the line at $4/gal. I have an Army Recon mountain bike (http://www.esbuys.com/sports_hobbies/esth367_26_army_recon_21_speed_folding_bike.htm) that I would like to use as my daily commuter so I need suggestions on what to buy. I would like an Ebike kit capable of cruising 30mph with a 25 mile range without pedaling. If a kit like this is not on the market I will take the closest thing. Please reply ASAP, I only have 8cents to go.

Are electric assist bikes legally bicycles in the USA?

I went through past discussions on this and am left confused, at least for my state, New Jersey. The question is whether, under the law, an electric assist bike with a motor of less that 750 watts and top motor-only speed of 20 mph is a bicycle or a moped. In New Jersey, moped drivers require a license and the moped must be registered and have insurance. Unfortunately, there seems to be a catch-22 in NJ, since only mopeds that are officially recognized as mopeds by the state can be licensed and registered. I doubt a bike with an add-on assist kit would be so recognized.

First time Ebike

I am getting ready to build my first ebike and I wanted some input(any issues with the setup?Cheeper place to buy from?Better Idea for a battery?. I plan on sourcing my parts from ebikes.ca when they get the stuff in stock. Thanks in Advance

408 Rear Wheel with Disk Brake $305
48V 12Ah NiMH $625 (Is it worth buying a pre-made battery?)

Giant Tran Send LX $480

What will changing from a 48V 20 amp controller to a 48V 30-35 amp do for performance on a E-bike hub motor?

I am having a lot of fun with my EV Tech BMC brushless hub motor, but as usual with me, I am now looking to increase the power a bit. I am running the Crystalite 48V 20 amp controller, and wondered if I went to a larger amp controller what affect it would have. Would the hill climbing and acceleration be affected? Would it change the top end on flat ground?

hub kits - throttles vs. torque sensor vs. ezee dial controller

I'm considering a hub kit. Right now I'm trying to decide between the Bionx and the Ezee hub kits with lithium batteries.

One of the issues I'm trying to resolve is which is the best method of controlling the speed.

Since I have never ridden an ebike, this Friday I made a trip up to Nycewheels in Manhattan to do some test rides and get some insight into the different control technologies.

crystalyte 4011 vs evtech puma

I want to upgrade my bike with a budget of around $800, and so far have narrowed it down to a couple of options. If anyone has any thoughts on best choice or my "facts" I would appreciate it - thanks in advance.

current setup: 46v 13ah nimh on evg bike 24v brush motor - so motor is in 26" rear wheel with 7 speed, 135mm dropouts.

What is better than the Crystalyte Phoenix Brute for me?

Greetings,

I have recently completed my install of a Crystalyte Phoenix Brute (what model # is that?) 36v rear-hub motor on a Schwinn cruiser. I am using a large LiFePO battery pack.

So... Everything is very heavy. I'm not light either ;-)

But, I love the torque of this set up and I have lots of hills in Seattle.

The question is:

Are units like the Bionx 500w, or the BMC hub motor going to be a better setup (ie: lighter, more efficient, and be just as torque-y)?

Thanks!

Where to buy an Electric bike in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Hi all,

I have recently been thinking about purchasing an electric bike. I'm living in Ann Arbor, MI and can't seem to find any shops that have any to check out. Any suggestions.
