Re: Vectrix - truly available?

Hello Busby
Well done! Michael hasn't replied to my email regarding a test drive... it's been over a month now.. but not too much of a problem, I'm still having to wait til the end of the year before buying.
I do hope this price from RG isn't just a summer sale and that by the time I'm ready for purchase the deal is still going.
Incidentally, have they got the whole colour range?
Harrods had the bike in black.. but they're no longer selling Vectrix.

Let us know how everything goes.

Re: Vectrix - truly available?

Michael (at RG Vectrix Dealership) has been attentive and responds via phone and email very quickly. He has access to the whole European colour range, (which also includes WHITE) and since safety is my priority, as much as I like the the aesthetic appeal of the green red AND blue VX1, only the white stands out to be noticed in traffic, so I'm due a delivery sometime this week. Let you know what happens when it turns up!

Exactly right.

I had initially requested a green bike but changed that when someone told me how they got nearly run over by a green SUV, which afterwards blended right back into the scenery.....

I used a glossy color ad for Vectrix with different colors including green and white on it - only the white could be seen from a distance.

Each to their own.
Understand perfectly the safety issues, but I've been riding a black scooter for 5 years, prior to that it was a dark green one. Personally I'm really not keen on a white vehicle, when the time comes I will either opt for the Black or Metallic Red.

One curious thing missing from my current scooter is Breakdown/Hazard lights. I couldn't find that feature listed in the Vectrix manual either. Is that the case?

Re: Vectrix - truly available?

There are no hazard lights at this stage.

It should be possible to program that feature into the CanBus, just like the dual headlight and headlight off feature that was added with a software upgrade.

The question is only how to signal to the system that you want the warning lights on.

Three short pulls on the rear brake could be an option.

On the only two occasions when I would have needed hazard lights that would not have worked, though.
Thats because in the standard setup all power is gone if the motor controller fuse says bye-bye. And it does...

Re: Vectrix - truly available?

Don;t get me wrong - I dislike white for a number of reasons, the only saving grace being you can be seen. Other colour choices like Yellow or Orange which are visibly better are unavailable, so white it had to be. I've been a scooter owner since 1992 (mainly Piaggio) and have had Blue, Green, Silver and eye piercing yellow. I've had my last bike (a Piaggio X9 500 in Yellow for 6 years, the longest period of ownership) and have NEVER had an issue with being unobserved. In all the others, I have been pulled out in front of, sideswiped by a car overtaking and nearly hit at a junction at night because from the side the green bike was invisible in the dark.

You've probably seen the Vectrix police bike livery - which uses the white base. I may go the same route, as any motorists I spoke to invariably treated any white bike as possibly ridden on police business. The point being it made them more alert to it's presence, nothing more.

When I'm riding, I don;t see the colour of my bike, so it's not part of the 'pleasure' process of ownership. And I've got more things to do that stare at it longingly from a distance. I'll swap visibility for coolness at any time, and I may check out some form of reflective livery to customise it further. Just look at the livery used by the AA for ther machines. OK, it's their corporate colour, but one that I'd happily live with (and polish regularly!).

Re: Vectrix - truly available?

I currently ride an electric Super Motard from ElectricMotorSport, it is a great bike and a well done conversion. But in the real world it has a 10 mile range, max speed of 45 mph. This has been a great bike for commuting only, no side trips, no errands.

The first bike I considered as an upgrade was the electric GPR. I know the guys at EMS do a great job in their conversions. The specs on the GPR look great.

But instead I went for a Vectrix. The eBoxer is starting production this month. As a conversion it will have the same drawbacks as any conversion. And it is a completely unknown as far as reliability goes.

I test rode the Vectrix now that I have a dealer close to me and had a complete blast on a bike designed to be electric from the ground up. After a year in production, you are right in saying it is not yet a mature product, but is is more mature than the eBoxer.

According to the guys at Maring BMW, they have been selling out every shipment before they arrive on the showroom floor. If this is true, it seems the increasing gas prices may save Vectrix from the fire.

Not only that, but the MSRP of the eBoxer is $8000 before tax, title and license. I am getting my Vectrix for 10,000 out the door plus a $1500 rebate from California, so $8500 to my door.

Re: Vectrix - truly available?

Hi Rontivo,

I am in Los Angeles and just purchase my Vectrix today from Scuderia West 415-621-7223 from San Francisco. They can not keep their Vectrix inventory in the showroom. My sales person said even their sample models are flying out the door. I believe they still have one more left. However, after talking to all of the San Francisco dealers this week, they are all out of the Vectrix and they are expecting a new shipment in by next week. Los Angeles will finally have a Vectrix dealership hopefully by next week because they are also waiting on their first shipment of Vectrix as well.

My Vectrix will be deliver by next week to Los Angeles. So if you make enough calls, you'll find one that just might have one or two left around.

I am sure the Vectrix will be raising it's prices as gas will be inching up to the $5-$7 per gallon by summer.
And then suddenly, every body wants one once they heard about Vectrix. By then, the $1500 CA EV rebate will run out of funds. So get your's quick if your in California.

Cheers!

Re: Vectrix - truly available?

I just picked up my brand new Vectrix from Scuderia West, and they told me the same thing - the bikes really seem to be moving out of their shop. Something like 5 sold in two weeks, and they've already placed another order. While I was in the shop a guy walked in and was extremely interested in the Vectrix. I've now taken it out a few times, tooling around and running errands. Being on the bike is just a blast. Glad to see they're finally delivering product again and that interest seems to be picking up.
