Wolf I fully believe the batteries are interchangeable but you would require a new charger. This is something I will look into.
Arctic Fox These bikes appear almost identical. The visual differences I see are different handle grips. The bezel around the ignition on ours has symbols and the screws & nuts are anodized where the 700li's appear to be plated. Not seeing the the handle bars, does the 700li have the 3 speed (range) switch by the throttle.

Re: New Stuff a Comin' (teaser pics)

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum. I have following this thread for a while. I have been researching anything it has to do about the Xtreme XB-700Li moped. I almost bought the lead acid powered moped before. I'm glad I waited. I know the lithium battery will make a big difference in reliability and durability of the battery.
It is very sad to know that it took a $4.00 for a gallon of gas to start mass producing a more powerful battery technology. I am sure there are better technologies out there, but the price is prohibitive still. I even considered building an E Bike with a lithium battery. The better quality battery alone was going to cost me what I paid for the whole moped. Not a good idea...
I did place an order for the scooter at the beginning of the month. I got a confirmation email telling me my moped will be arriving on July 31. I can't wait! I will be posting several pictures of my experience and a short video in YouTube. If the moped works as advertised I will become a dealer in my area. I live in California and we are still paying $4.39 a gallon in my area. I believe the potential is great.
I like the moped because is fast enough to get you from point A to point B and slow enough not to get in trouble. Hopefully I will not have to registered with the DMV. I will be leaving the pedals on just in case.

Do you guys know if there is a special thread about this moped?

Anyone else ordering one?

Does anyone ride a moped in California? Did you have it registered?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Al

No 3 speed (range switch). I guess we will have to wait till the 700li gets into the hands of some riders to see what it is really like. Body style is body style and since several manufacturers do use the same body we will have to wait and see.

Another question. Our Dream Ryder has all LED lighting. Is this true of the XM700li?

Re: New Stuff a Comin' (teaser pics)

Hi,

I am happy to report that I got my Blue and Silver Xtreme 700Li today August 1st after five day wait. The Bike came undamaged and ready to be assembled. It took me about an hour to get everything ready. This is not for someone that is not mechanically inclined. The instructions are incomplete. I can see many people having problems assembling it.
The Bike looks exactly the same as the pictures in this forum. It is nice looking vehicle. Unfortunately there are no LED lights in this Bike. There is not a three speed switch neither. The battery came charged up and ready to ride. I am worried because the first time I connected the battery there was a spark when connecting the battery.
The Bike rides very quiet and is just fast enough for me. There is not an odometer and the speedometer only reads Kilometers. I checked my speed with a hand held GPS. The maximum speed I could achieved was 20 MPH. 18 MPH with two riders with a total weight of 300 lbs on flat streets. I have no hills where I live. Everything worked perfectly in the Bike, I even found out how to activate the Alarm System. I just pushed the Horn Button right after I locked the Bike with the key. It even has a vibration sensor. The alarm is very uncomfortable to hear.

I am sad to report that the Battery will not charge while connected to the Bike. The charger lights up green while connected to the bike, as if the battery was charged. When I remove the battery out the battery compartment and connect the charger directly. The charger's light's up red, the fan starts running and charges the battery.

I removed the seat to check for voltage in the connections. There was 50 volts in the Bike connectors while the battery is connected to the bike. When I checked the voltage in the battery connector with out the battery connected to the connector, I could not find any voltage. I suspect there needs to be a load for me to find any voltage. However it would seem like the battery is not being charge while in the bike.

Does any one have any idea what might be problem?
I am doing anything wrong?

I will call Xtreme on Monday for technical assistance.

My next project is to open the Battery box to find out what kind of Lithium batteries came with the Bike. The Batteries seem to be on the heavy side, 25 lbs. I have not way to compare them since I have no idea how heavy the Acid batteries are.

The fit and finish was amazing high quality. I can see bike lasting several years with proper maintenance.

The brakes are drums in both front and rear.

I hope I can resolve the charging issue. I do not like the idea of having to remove the battery every time I need to charge it. I am sure the Bike's battery connectors would not last too long.

Here are some pictures of the Bike:

Thank you.

Hey, that battery weighs 25lbs? Is it manageble to remove and transport? As an apartment dweller, such things are very important.

I understand. Yes it is very manageable to remove and transport. You can even charge it outside the Bike.

nice my batteries way a ton, it comes out easy but putting it back in takes a lil time due to managing the wire you plug in and then fitting it down in the compartment, safe it to say i leave the battery in and charge it that way, besides the battery compartment actually has 2 locks on it...

I agree with you Wolf the batteries on ours are very heavy. I am curious to later on replace them with lithium .
Also I am waiting to here about the operational characteristics of the 700li. Lots of pics but no user data.

I'm thinking this thread needs to be moved to the 600/700 section.

Re: New Stuff a Comin' (teaser pics)

yes trading up to li batteries would be nice, but i think a lil pricey, might need a different controller..im not electricaly inclined..so...but on the plus side its nice our bikes have a lil weight to them, ive driven in some high winds and they do get pushed around abit...take away the weight and could get pushed around to much...the other day i was run off the road by an 18 wheeler, i wasnt impressed he didnt even move over i could lift my elbow and touch his trailor as he went by...i caught up to him at the light as he was driving away, the bugger was laughing...safe it to say i wasnt amused....everyone please keep your eyes open at all times....

Re: New Stuff a Comin' (teaser pics)

I finally had the time to open my 700Li Battery to find out more about it.

PICT0039.jpg
Tha battery is very easily removable. It weighs 25 pounds and can be charged outside the bike.

PICT0037.jpg

The battery has a hole on the side by the connector. I believe that is for ventilation. There are six screws holding the battery cover.
PICT0031.jpg
There is a warning sticker on the battery

PICT0030.jpg

Here is the cover off, you can see all the padding and the battery wires.

PICT0028.jpg

Padding off. There are two banks of tightly wrapped batteries surrounded by more black foam padding.
PICT0026.jpg
One bank off the padding. Notice there is no branding or information of any kind. Just green wrapping.
PICT0025.jpg
The only label. No information at all.
PICT0022.jpg
Another look.
I would say it should be fairly easy to replace the batteries in the future. It was very easy to disassemble and assemble back the battery.

So far I got about 100 miles in the bike. I say about because I did not have an odometer on the bike before. I recently installed a bicycle computer to know for sure the speed and total miles ridden. Here is a picture of the computer.

PICT0043.jpg

The computer is designed for regular bicycles and the speed sensor was not designed for this bike. Here is a picture of the speed sensor. Is is not pretty but it works.
PICT0046.jpg
Anyone out there with a better way to mount the sensor?

It would seem like the bike got a bit faster after a few days. Now I can do 22 MPH by my self and 20 MPH with my wife on the passenger seat. We weigh about 310 the two of us. We ride together often, the bike performs well. I found out the hard way that you can not accelerate while using the brake. The throttle handle does not work while braking. That is a nice safety feature. Not good for stopping and going uphills. We have not hills where we live, do not know how it works on hills.
The bike brakes with the electric motor as soon as you press on the brake. Do not know if recharges the battery while braking.

I had only one minor problem so far. The bike will not charge from the seat post. I have to remove it from the battery holder and charge it directly. I do not ride long distances so I charge it every three days. I did contacted Xtreme and they answered right away via email and phone. They said they were going to send me seat connector part. Hopefully that fixes the problem.

Here are some pictures of the controller and cables under the seat.
PICT0048.jpg
Very high tech way of making the harnesses waterproof. The controller had no branding. Seemed like the original sticker was taken off by hand and replaced by 2008 06 numbers.
PICT0049.jpg
One of my speedometer light bulbs went out. Xtreme is sending me a replacement.

I have been looking for a replacement LED lights. I have found several automotive LED lights that are 12 volts. The bike seems to have 56 volt lighting. The 12 volt is not compatible although they look very similar. The Head light bulb reads 56V18/W BLT.
Does anyone know where to get LED lights that are compatible with this?

I have notice that the Canadian Mopeds that are similar to the 700Li have all LED lighting. I would love to change my lights to LED. They are much brighter and use much less electricity.

I will be posting more information later on..

Re: New Stuff a Comin' (teaser pics)

Hello everybody, we have been following this blog for a while and find it very interesting, but have not seen the need to sign-up or comment until now.
We hope this little gem of info is going to be helpful to all of you who just got their X-Treme 700Li and are unable to charge the battery from the bike connection. We had the same problem, but it bothered us soooooo much to have to recharge the battery by disconnecting and removing it every time, that we came up with this quick and easy solution:
1st of all, turn your bikes ignition key to off.
2nd, remove and disconnect the battery from your bike (safety reasons).
3rd, open the seat; under your seat you will find 2 bolts in the back , left and right of the seat hatch lock, you will find 2 more such bolts inside the little locked compartment all the way on the bottom of your seat compartment.
Unscrew all 4 of these bolts, now the entire seat well will be removable, take it out and put aside.
In the front you will now see the back side of the charging connector.
On this, you will see a red wire on the left side, IGNORE IT.
On the right side you will see a black wire, you need to disconnect this wire from the post.
Now reconnect this black wire to the middle upper post.

When you finnish with that, put the seat back, tighten the 4 bolts again, and reconnect your battery to the bike and put back into it's well.

THE PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CHARGE YOUR BATTERY WITH THE BIKE CONNECTOR.

TOOLS NEEDED:
1x Phillips Screwdriver
1x Solder Iron
1x Core Solder Wire

Happy riding (and now with easy recharging), us_westcoast

Re: New Stuff a Comin' (teaser pics)

Hi us_westcoast, thank you for posting this important information. I followed your instructions and the battery is now charging from the seat post. What a relief, no more removing the battery to charge it. I took the liberty to take two pictures and use your instructions to let the other owners know about the fix in a different post. You can see the post on the other 700Li thread here:

http://visforvoltage.org/forum/3808-details-xb700li

Thank you much for taking the time to post this information. This is the first time I join one of this forums. The information here is very useful.
