Re: XB-500 BURNED HUB WIRE-SHORT

If you have not already I would check each individual battery in the pack. Make sure they are charging properly and to max voltage. If all the batteries are fine, then more than likely you have burnt out something in the hub motor. It could be a little of the windings or a hall sensor. I cant think of anything other than checking the battery pack and all the fuses and wiring in the bike than a "novice" can do. Testing the motor and or throttle may be beyond your scope and I can not think of an easy way to tell you how to do it at the moment. Perhaps someone else here can explain an easy way to do this. I do know the act of having power for 3-5 seconds, then cutting off, then coming back on, can be due to a severely under voltage pack. Normally caused by a bad battery in the pack or a bad charger not charging properly.

I will post if I can think of anything else....

Did you remove the motor, take it apart and replace the damaged wiring with wire the same size or bigger? Are all wiring connections properly and securely soldered/connected? Sloppy or damaged wiring may be the culprit, and CAN cause other damage!-Bob.

You say:

Where was the insulation failure? What wire shorted? (color)

You also should make sure you connected the hub motors wires correctly to the new controller. Is it a stock controller or aftermarket? I use an aftermarket controller and the color of the wires are the same but they don't hook to the hub motor the same as the stock controller. Not all controllers are the same even if the wires are the same color. You might check the hall sensor wires too if it is an aftermarket controller.
