Electric motorcycle designer dies in crash
http://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/20100830/articles/100839943
Matt Dieckmann was the owner of ElectricRaceBikes.com - an online store that was focusing on supplying parts for electric motorcycle conversions - and also owner of the Electric Race Bikes motorcycle that raced in TTXGP this year. He was a great guy, a lot of fun, etc.
The article says he was out testing his motorcycle - and reading between the lines of the article, that a Prius driver turned in front of him.
I'm feeling a huge loss about this. A young man who's dedicated to our cause and at the beginning of what could have been beautiful work making electric motorcycles. Gone.
Here's several random pictures from over the summer
Thank you for those huge, clear pictures honoring him.
This is how History gets made.
Who is your hero?
Cedric Lynch. Dieckmann said.
"We are focused on bringing high performace EV parts to people at the lowest possible prices"
Young, determined and capable - he handed out a message for each one of us:
DO WHAT YOU WANT! Matt was saying
[when being asked "If anyone reading this is thinking about following your example, what advice would you give them?" http://egrandprix.com/interviews.php?id=5]
“We’re going to start engineering our own bike from the wheels up”
He's gone but his idea lives on.
Who's going to continue his work?
Who is your Hero?
Matt Dieckmann.
This will be the absolut on the spot in one breath answer of his grandmother tonight and tomorrow.
And after Tomorrow they'll be more with the same answer.

Very, Very Sad.
I had several chats with Matthew at VIR. A Very cool guy to talk with.
He will be missed. Our condolences to the family.

Shocked here...Matt was one of those really special people that you only get the chance to meet a few of in your lifetime if you are lucky...so bright, so much passion, and so much promise, really bummed he was taken away from us so soon. Just glad I had the chance to get to know him and race his bike this season, and really saddened that he had to take the checkered flag so soon. Guess someone else had bigger and better plans for him...Godspeed MD will miss you.
I tried to get him involved in Electric Bicycle Road Racing and his email response read:
"This sounds like fun, count me in next year!
If I ever get some free time I plan on completing a few Superbicycles I have in constriction.
Thanks for the email, are you entering ?
Matt Dieckmann"
Sad... just too young to go...
FWIW at the track they had two electric bicycles for riding around the track. Well, neither of them had pedals, and the power was a bit higher than typical bicycles ...

Every week Matt would be feverishly working on his bike and I would think that maybe this time we’d beat him. No matter what was wrong with his bike, on Sunday he and Hannas would be far in front of us. Matt worked hard for his results. It was a pleasure to have met him. Matt was one of only six team owners to complete the entire first season of the North American TTXGP

This is such a tragedy. He was so young and had much more to do in this world before he left us.
He was always a great guy to everyone he came across. He'll be missed.
Please keep his family and friends in your prayers. This terrible event comes just a few years after his mother was killed on her bicycle by a garbage truck.

Fund set up for Matt Deickmann
I've set up a fund in memory of Matt.
http://www.giveforward.org/Matt-Diec...neral-Expenses
This is to help his family and friends with any funeral arrangements, fees, etc. Whatever is left I'd like to suggest that we put towards an award in his honor to help other grassroots electric motorcycle race teams get started.
Please repost anywhere you can. Get this out to friends, family, coworkers, other motorcycle enthusiasts.
Thanks,
Travis Gintz
