How much do you guess it will cost?
Why is this bike with 4 12V batteries going to go faster than the xm-2000 with 5 12V batteries?

I would guess more amps through the controller and the big thing is 13" wheels. We seem to overlook that very much in discussions. Many of the scooters discussed on this forum have 10" wheels. What size does the XM-2000 have?

More like 19 miles if you are lucky. I have 600 amp batteries on my motorcycle. 50 amps is weak ;)

A brush motor is much easier to mod because it can take a DC input from a brush DC motor controller which are very common and cheap. Brushless controllers are more expensive and less interchangeable. They are more complex because they need to take input from position sensors and switch the phases effectively taking over in a way what a mechanical commutator would do.

This is typical of EV makers to quote the highest speed they ever got, and quote the longest range they ever got. And they're never achieved at the same time.

The trick to the long range is to get a real skinny person (not me) to ride it at extremely moderate speed on a flat course with lots of coasting.

Brushed motors need more maintenance: cleaning brush dust in the motor regularly and change of worn-out brush and commutator.

I don't think anyone from the old forum ever mentioned seeing the 3500 watt model in person. Evader's old website had it with more pictures. It didn't have a wheel motor, as you can see, it had a chain drive. They must have removed it when they updated their website. I don't think it will ever materialize unless they can put a different battery type in it without bringing the price up very high. They may have noted the range drawbacks with that kind of power using lead-acid batteries during development.

It makes a lot more sense to put smaller motors in scooters now, and sell them for a lot less. This way you still get decent range, and you are not paying for power that would cut down the range and make the vehicle impractical for most people anyway.

I can see the logic much better now after doing my project. I think a much less powerful scooter is a lot more practical. Any gas bike can do 80 on the highway for as long as you can keep the throttle pulled back, and stop for gas every hour or two. There's not really any reason to put that kind of power on an electric vehicle unless you are racing. Make the EVs do what they do best:

Small light and efficient so it can be charged from solar/wind
Low power cheap components to buy so it can complement but not replace a gas vehicle
Cheap to maintain and keep "fueled" so it is great for everyday trips to work and such
Generally for convenience: which can mean less maintenance, no oil changes, no going to the gas station, and no dirty engine to work on.
Plus a nice quiet ride

Given how much I've worked on my bike, I think its purpose now is a novelty that I take out occasionally to show off, or have some fun. I don't want to get it in an accident or put too much wear on it. I need a cheap scooter to take the wear and tear, and I'm really excited about the Z20. It'll be great for charging from solar too.
