I've asked this in posts several times and I can't seem to get anyone to respond...I'm ordering my scooter tomorrow along with all components for the mods and previous threads, internet readings and tutorials are all unclear on this matter.
This is a topmotorx.com bike which should closely resemble the emax in electronic compenents:
My scooter will have dual plugs for charging. I can order two chargers (48v, 10a each). If I upgrade my battery pack to 60v, 40Ah silicone (this would be 10x12v, 20Ah in a buddy-pair wiring formation with powercheqs and a paktrakr monitor) can I safely use the original charger? Can I safely use two chargers to 'fast' charge the pack?

Are you asking if its ok to use two chargers in parallel charging a 48 volt pack? I know its ok with some chargers but check with charger manufacturer. If you want to upgrade to 60 volts then naturally you'll need to get another 12 volt charger and use it in series with a 48 volt charger. Again, some chargers handle this ok but others short, it might be wise to disconnect additional battery from the rest of the 48 volt string when charging, at least at first.

It looks like you are asking a few separate questions:
1. Can chargers be paralleled to charge the same pack?
2. Can two 48v chargers be used to charge a 60v pack?
3. Can more than one charger be used for separate parts of a string of batteries?
I have not tried using chargers in parallel. I don't know if this will work. Usatracy noted the following:

As for #2, I don't see how you can use two 48v chargers to charge a 60v pack safely. You may be able to use them to charge a 48v section of the pack, and get a 12v charger to charge the last battery (or two buddy paired in your case).
I think I've answered #3. AFAIK it can be done but may trip the breaker if the sections of the pack are not isolated. This would mean some type of connector that would disconnect your last 12v batterie(s) from the rest of the pack.

Okay, that makes sense. I did fail to clarify something that I kinda took for granted:
The scooter comes equipped with two charging ports (in other words, its already wired to use two 48v chargers to fast charge the stock 48v pack).
My readings on this site and elsewhere suggest that I can still use the stock 48v charger to safely and completely charge a 60v battery pack (I'm adding another pair of the same battery). It just takes longer...true?
However, it sounds like I should NOT risk trying the second stock 48v charger due to the fact that I am:
a) upping the pack voltage
b) changing the wiring to a 2x5x12v buddy-pair (the PJD 'special')
Correct?

No! A 48 volt charger cannot be used to charge a 60 volt battery pack. You can use a 48 volt charger to charge 4 of the batteries that are in a series string and a 12 volt charger to charge the lone battery at the end of the string. Depending on the charger selected. Some chargers are not electrically isolated, what this means is that the 2 chargers can talk to each other through the ground prong on the wall plug. One solution is to remove the ground prong.
Go to the soniel charger site, there is some very good information there on how to hook up multiple chargers.

Got it.
So, I've misinterpreted some of my readings and gotten some blatantly bad info from some dealers then!
Therefore I should not order a second 48v charger and, instead, look into a 12v charger to wire up with the stock 48v charger OR pick up a 60v charger.
Anyone out there know a 60v charger that would be appropriate for the stock Guineng silicone batteries that came in the E-Max and now come in the Topmotorx scooters? Again, this would be a buddy-pair wired 2x5x12v,20Ah setup.

A 48volt charger will NOT fully charge 60 volt batteries, it will stop at just a little over 48 volts. I would suggest as the others did that you use another 12 volt charger to charge the other 12 volt batteries with a charger like this one http://www.evparts.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=1108&product_id=4132
I would also wire in a fuse that can be discounted when charging the extra batteries. Good luck with your purchase!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I was planning out the 48v charger and 12v charger combo, it struck me that the XM-2000 uses a 60v silicone battery pack. The X-Treme website lists a replacement battery charger (60v, 4A) for $99. No more details are available...is it a 'smart' charger (won't keep charging after the batteries are "full")?
Would this charger work for me?

Ya that charger should work but be careful if you are using two chargers at the same time on the same plug "circuit" ; make sure you remove the ground prong. Also make sure there is a removable fuse between battery packs! The Zivan NG3 is a really nice 60 volt charger but is very pricey runs about 900 bucks! http://www.zivanusa.com/NG3BatteryCharger.htm
