Hello everybody,
I have been pulling my hair out for quite some time to get my Can - bus to USB to see the Vectrix diagnostic software. Well the problem is now understood. (And solved) It seems that Peak have changed the driver for their connector last year. Guess what? The Vectrix software does not work with the new driver. (or at least the version that I have) (thanks to The Laird for all his help in trying to sort this out..)
There is a DLL file to change. The file to change is located in the Vectrix software under ScooterDiag. It is called PCAN_USB.dll.
To resolve the problem you can download the old version of this file from www.peak-system.com. Firstly rename your current PCAN_USB.dll to something else ie old or whatever. Then go to www.peak-system.com click on support, All files from our Product CD (a new window should open), then click on Develop, PC Interfaces, Windows, PCan-light API, Win 32 and then right at the bottom PCAN_USB.dll. Download this file and then place this in the folder where you renamed the file in the earlier instance.
Then it all should work.
Gees - quelle patience! After thinking the problem was a Win 7 issue and going to another older machine - anyway now sorted - it seems this software works fine on Win 7 as well as XP
I hope this can be of use to others.
Best regards,
Jonathan
Just a point to add - if, with your PCan adapter connected and your Vectrix diagnostic software open - the red LED on the USB/Can plug casing is NOT flashing then the Vectrix software is NOT seeing the CAB to USB adapter. This is the situation I had.

Thanks for the post, that should help a few people over time! How to update PEAK PCAN USB Driver in ScooterDiag...that should assist Mr Yahoogle to find it....How to update PEAK PCAN USB Driver in ScooterDiag...How to update PEAK PCAN USB Driver in ScooterDiag...PEAK PCAN Vectrix not working....PEAK PCAN Vectrix not working...PEAK PCAN Vectrix not working
Could you add a few more keywords in a reply to enable others to find your post? Any error messages that came up just before you were pulling your hair out would probably be likely search terms.... ;-)
A slight error (bolded): You have to put the NEW file into the ScooterDiag folder.
This thread has been added to the Vectrix Collaborative Handbook, please stay on topic!

Hi Mik,
No error messages - just CAN-Bus will not connect to Vectrix diagnostic software - you have only a steady light on the CAN - BUS adapter LED. When you are communicating with the Diagnostic Software you get a blinking LED about 1 blink every second.
BTW it is an older file that you need to place in your Diagnostic folder - it is actually a downgrade you are doing... - as the new file is incompatible with the Vectrix Software. The people at Peak in Germany were very helpful and wanted to know a lot about the Vectrix. If you continue to have problems it seems as they are only too happy to help!

My vectrix diagnostic software won't work, problem with diagnostic software, how to connect to Vectrix software... yada yada..
This may be the cause of our inability to connect. We tried it today, but never got the confirmation of connection, so we couldn't install the hex file. I wish I'd seen your post before!
I'll try downloading the alternate .dll file and try connecting again.
Hi, I hope you solved your problem. Anyway, herewith the answer I had from a PEAK guy, Michael Maidhof, when I experienced same problem. I followed those suggestions and it works. I have installed on a W7 64 bit, it works because program is under 32bit directory (x86)
" the problem is clear. After installation of that software, there is a too old pcan_usb.dll in the ScooterDiag directory, which cannot work with the newer 3.x driver from us. But you can simply remove the old pcan_usb.dll and overwrite it with the latest version V2.04 (32bit) from our CD or from our website http://www.peak-system.com/produktcd/Develop/PC%20interfaces/Windows/PCAN-Light%20API/Win32/PCAN_USB.dll to fix that problem.
The software is using a 250k Baudrate, so when you use 250k in PCAN-View you should also see CAN frames in PCAN-View.
I have tested it here on a WinXP 32bit version, when it will not work on 64bit, please try on a 32bit system again.
best regards
Michael Maidhof
Hello All
I think I have resolved all issues and that my V diagnostics program is ready for a firmware update, but I have one confounding problem. My GridConnect=Peak PCAN is a male as is my Vectrix. Thus their couplomg is somewhat clumsy at best. Is this the way it should be? Seems unnatural. Is there a female/female adapter available? This is a bit embarassing.
Really. I can't find any discussion of this on the blog. Anybody faced this dilemma and found a way through it?
Thanks,
Tim
Peak used to sell the extension cable with the usb adaptor to change from one to another - however i dont know if any gender changer from electronic stores would be fine
For example jaycar male to male
or female to female
As they are all pin to pin i can't see why either would be a problem
However others here probably know more than I
Cheers
The cable (or rather it's inner workings)is shown in the firth post here: http://visforvoltage.org/book/ev-collaborative-hand-books/6916
"Terminated" or "unterminated" are the options and it might not matter much. I think you are supposed to use an unterminated cable.

Any gender bender will do
I usually just use one like this:

What's the source impedance for the +5Vdc on the CanBus connector in the glovebox??
Thanks in advance.
