Hi! Roger!another catalonian ev fanatic!.I'm thinking on the purchase of VX-1 nimh on Barcelona.Maybe I can get one for about 1000 eur or less.I heard on www.forococheselectricos.com that you and Santiago had converted a VX-1 nimh with lithium batteries.I live in Barcelona too. It's difficult.Would you buy a nimh vectrix from 2007-2008?.
I am almost at 50.000 (on still the original battery!!!) but the next owner will probably see that number in the display because yesterday I placed an order for the Brammo Empulse!
The EU type approval is almost done so they are shipping bikes to Amsterdam now. Maybe in April I ride my new bike.

And learn to shift through 6 gears, use a clutch and brake the rear wheel with the left foot again :-)

The clutch is a necessity for a normal "manual" gearbox to work, as gears cannot be changed under load. And about 3 different gear ratios would make sense for an electric bike like the Empulse, to enable it to make more use of the electric motor's power over the full speed range possible with that power. With electric motors there is ALWAYS a tradeoff between maximum torque / efficiency and maximum speed. With just one fixed gear ratio there is limit to the power which is actually usable. Above that you need a second gear to be able to reach the maximum speed possible with that amount of power, and if you have as much power as the Empulse even a third gear may make sense. With just one fixed ratio tuned for maximum speed the pickup from a standstill would be ridiculously slow with that bike. You can also use a smaller (cheaper...) motor with gears and still get some fun out of it...
The six gears are complete and utter overkill, unless Brammo really used a miniscule motor. But the six-speed electric motorcylce gearbox was readily available from the Italian company IET, so that is how the Empulse wound up with about 3 gear ratios too many.

Wooowww Congratulations!
100.000 km on a Vectrix! This is an odissey! I,d love to read a small text about your vectrix... how many mc have been blown, how many batteries had to be replaced... funny situations... epic rides...
I guess at 200k you vectrix will explode into thousand pieces and propel you to orbit the earth, no doubt!
Oh! and Anybody in this forum is in contact with Grillino75?
okay, so I had the bike completely original up until 13'450km (June 2010)
at which point I sold the nimh battery to mik, and the ESD charger to hibba
I installed 44 x Thundersky 60Ah cells and a 165v 8A TC Charger (most cells were manufactured
in 2010, but 4 were manufactured in 2008)
Some timer later I removed two cells to improve low speed performance and to test a few
things. at this point I swapped to a 153v 15A TC Charger
some time later that TC Charger failed, and I bought my present charger, a 153v 10A unit (I
have had this one for 3 years now)
I burnt out two MC's, and I am now on my third.
My present MC has reinforced phase terminals of my own design - replaced around a year ago.
MC''s seem to last me around 40'000km, though I am hoping better from this one
a few years ago I rode way too far and thought I had killed a couple of cells.
I swapped my two spares in, and bench tested the two I thought I had killed.
They revived and came back with a capacity of 52Ah
They have sat on my shelf ever since
Both the two I thought I killed and the two spares were 2008 manufactured cells
I only ever discharge to 46-48Ah at a maximum, as measured by my cycle analyst
One day when I do some time i will do a proper capacity test
so still on essentially the same battery since June 2010/13'450km
I am on my 9th rear tyre and on my 6th front tyre
brake pads are worn to 40% remaining (still original)
Daily Ride:
2007 Vectrix, modified with 42 x Thundersky 60Ah in July 2010. Done 194'000km
hi guys..
I reached 82.000 km in 4 years with my first VX1 li+ 42Ah GP batteries (almost at their end...)
now I added a second one to my garage with a 70Ah amita battery pack and I already rode 5.000 km in 2 months
I finally made it to 100000 KLm's after purchasing the scooter back in 2008 with 1800 KLms on the speedo. Now running Nissan Leaf batteries and doing a daily round trip to work and back of 65 kLms Every thing running reliably now ... Who knows how much longer it will go? ( still on original mc board as well) Sorry about the upside down pic I have problems posting via iPad
Wow antiscab, what a distance traveled?! Congrats! No troubles with gearbox, encoder, chargers, tempsensors, blown capacitors, ...? Ah yes, MC troubles?

I,m "just only" 44.444,5 Kw away...
That's a long way, I guess it will take me around 6 years to reach that mark.
happy riding!

I think you mean right foot?
And except to make it a "real motorcycle" (and allow easy wheelies) what is the purpose of 6 speeds and a clutch in an electric motor powered vehicle?

"Only" 40K away... How'dy your odometers?
So it is possible.
A Vectrix VX-1 can be reliable.
Got mine back yesterday after a big and long repair.
It has only 9000 km on the odometer.
image_9.jpg (12.45 KB)Mine has now covered over 80k now but a battery died last night

Impressive mark!
I guess the time of the leaf cells has come to your vectrix...
I passed the 100'000km mark today :D
I wonder what happens at 200'000km....

Only 20.000km on it.
