Has there been a major improvement in the hill-climbing ability of e-bikes over the last 2 years? I dream of getting a throttled e-bike but I live in a hilly area and I wonder if it would be useless.

I believe there has been a good amount of improvement in the hill climbing ability of some ebikes in the past couple of years. In part this is due to the power, but it also has to do with the weight of the bikes and the type of motors they use. I believe the bike you have has a 250watt motor, which is one of the smallest motors out on the market today so I can see why you might have some issue climbing hills. It's also a standard brushless motor, which isn't the best for hill climbing, especially with low wattage. A geared motor like in the Easy Motion Cross or similar would give you much better torque, particularly under load. Another option would be to choose a higher wattage direct drive motor like the Currie eFlow or the Currie Zuma depending on what you are looking for. Are you the only dealer on Long Island who sells E-bikes? I am very impressed with your letter. Unfortunately I am a retired man with no cash. I would consider a new throttle type bike if I could find one cheap, but not this year. Thanks for your response.

My old 450 watt EZIP Trailz is a great hill climber - the geared motor setup works well for that. It does slow a lot on the very worst hills, and I have to assist in first gear, which I rarely use otherwise, but a gearing change would solve that, assuming I could actually find a 8 tooth motor sprocket. The stock gearing works quite well for my mix of mild hills, moderate hills, steep hills and flat runs.
heres your 8 tooth sprocket. pop it off the shaft. file it to fit. used it on above bike and its predicessor. craftsman garage door opener drive gear..

My WAVECREST mountain bike has no problem taking me uphill, and I weigh 200 pounds!(Bike is 36 volt, 750 watt, direct rear wheel drive, USA made, but no longer sold here, see "MATA" of France, for present day version.

I think you are right that in the hill-climbing are Electrical bikes can't give the good result because of low watt motor .If we increase or use the Hp Watt motor then it will give best result.
