Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

I got my "magic box" tw days ago, but it seems like it is not realy compatible with my Li+ Vectrix. The Ah counter rises by one every 5 seconds, regardless of if i'm just rolling or doing full throttle. So it showed 600 after 40kms, so if i unterstood wright this would mean 60Ah but my Pack does only have 42 Ah...
The other problem i have is that the way the settings of the magic box are changed is the same way my "new" Vectrix Firmware needs to change charger power etc.

So thanks paul very much for the work, but i think at the moment the box is not really useable with the Li and Li+ bikes.

@paul:
I don't know if it makes sense to do all the work again for the Li bikes, but if you want do it i would really like to help by doing Logs or other things i can do to support.

The Firmwares i use:
Charger: EVPS LiFe 40-3
MC: MCR 2042-4
ICM: DIY_1708
BMS: R54

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

Ok thanks for the feedback.

I will look into it to see what is causing this 5-second add.
Is it exactly 5 seconds ?

I have a Li bike here but trashed the MC somewhere along the line of testing and experimenting :-)
Actually the first release of the Ah counter part of the Magic Box was build and tested on this bike and havent changed much since really so im a little surprised.
My first thoughts are that it must be another thing (there are some 1s and 5s timers in my software) causing this.

I will create a modified firmware for you without any fancy stuff needing these timers, just an Ah counter to see if that works.

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

Hi Paul,
thanks for your reply. I did't use a stop watch but counted myself while riding and the time the counter rised was always the same or extremly near the same. I always counted 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and then it rised. I'll test it again tomorrow.
If you have a new firmware I would really like to test it.
Besides: If you already tested the magic box with a Li bike: Did you already have any idea if you could display the LowCell/HiCell? My biggest Problem at the moment are some weak cells in my pack but if i always ride with the original Vectrix Real-Time Display i don't have the watch and the Odometer. With your software it would be much easier for me to habe a look at this...

Thanks again very much!

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

I tested again with my stopwatch and the automatic rise of the Ah counter is about every 6 seconds, but it seemed to me that it was not allways the exact same time but was allways between about 5.5 and 6 seconds. But its very hard to stop it exactly...

- Box has USB interface and can provide diagnostic information about the Vectrix

Hi, is it possible to use the Vectrix Scooter Diag Software with the Magic Box?
Could the box emulate the Peak adapter?

Congratulations for your fabulous work.

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

Hi all,

Sending out the Magic Box had been delayed because i needed to fix a programming error in v1.55.
Almost fixed now and new firmware v1.56 will be on the Box within a few days.

Also, a notice to anyone sending me email by Gmail:
I cannot send you email replies because GMail is not accepting my mailservers again/anymore :-(
So if you havent heard or didnt receive any answer from me, contact me over PM on this forum.

Hi Prensel,
Where can we find the new release?
Did you start shipping the Magic Box with the new firmware?

v1.61 + manual is on the Box website and on all shipped boxes :-)

Sorry for the delay, had to be sure it worked.
But testing/driving in this weather isn't much fun... :-)

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

Just received my box! Really happy with it!
However I have a break levers sensitivity problem and it's kind of difficult to set my preferences...
That same sensibility problem doesn't allow me to use the cruise control...
It would be nice for me that the preferences could be set using the clock or odometers buttons.
I need to check with my mechanic if I could improve my break levers, they are too loose and make contact very easily. Moreover the roads in Lisbon have some pavement on their holes.

Is it possible to use the battery bars has an real time instantaneous consumption display? No bars when stopped and full bars when full acceleration? Same for regen...With the limits being the MC values.

If I failed to repair the break levers perhaps the solution would be the connectivity with a smart phone.

Finally, super job Prensel! Very happy customer here!

I had same problem two years ago. You should replace brake sensors.
I solved this issue DIY, by drilling a small hole on the brake lever, where the aluminium contacts the plastic of the brake sensor. Then I overfilled it with tin. The plastic piston is pushed deeper by the tin, and the brake sensor is activated later. OMG! the flickering brake light effect is gone...

Is it possible to add a self discharge rate to the Amp counter?

I'm working on this for a while now. unfortunately its too cold to get the bikes outside so this has to wait until tested.
But it's coming in the next update :-)

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

Today I started testing the magic Box.
Clever design, very easy to set the parameters.
The special Firmware of the ESD charger is accepting the magic box parameters correctly... So far, no problems aroused.

Thank you, the laird team, for programming this wonderful system!

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

Hi all
I have the magic Box and updated it to V1.61. I have just finished my 18650 upgrade. The Firmware I use is:

MC: MCR2042-4
Ch: EVPS LiMn 36s-2
ICM: DIY_1708
BMS: R-64

My problem is: I can not see the actuall current. There is fixed 64A in the display. Do anyone have the same problem? Or do I have a special Firmware combination?

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

OK, this is probably a really stupid question. But bear with me, I'm a mac guy ...

How exactly do I connect the Magic Box to my PC? I have a laptop with USB ports. I have the Magic Box with the 9-pin serial connector. Do I need a separate cable to connect the magic box to the laptop? If so, what does it look like?

TIA :)

Firmware upgrade's in Prensel's magic box can be flashed easily at home with Arduino builder on Win 8(.1)

First download and install the Arduino software: http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

Then download Arduinobuilder here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/arduinodev/files/ArduinoBuilder/

Connect the Box with usb cable to the PC. Start Arduinobuilder. Choose Leonardo and 16mhz.

Load a .hex provided by Prensel and press COM3 button (or whathever COM port is configurated on your PC)

Programm will be flashed then.

Re: CAN-BUS Datalogger for Vectrix

OK it was indeed a stupid question. Opened up the magic box and found the USB connector. Magic Box is now connected to my laptop, and I have a green light on the arduino board which I figure must be good.

Problem is, when I try to flash it I get "Forcing reset using 1200bps open/close on COM3... no new port found"

I know very little about the inner workings of Windows. This is a refurb laptop with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 - can anyone help?

Thanks :)
