Where does this spring go?

20170220_180818.jpg

Hi guys.

Recently, my kick stand no longer pulls forward for the last couple centimetres of the swing. The first time this happened, I dropped the bike unfortunately.

It's pretty obvious that the counter spring has come off while the main spring is still pulling the stand backwards.

I can't find anything obvious to hook it to though. It could be under a fairing. If anyone knows, could they tell me? Or if you don't, can you take a photo of your workoing one?

Thanks.

Thanks. Will have a look tonight hopefully can use something to hook it back on without having to take the fairing off.

Re: Where does this spring go?

Looking at your photo, it appears that the pivot bolt has come undone and the head of the bolt has been catching the spring which prevents the stand from locking into the forward position:

I have had this happen on both of mine and it simply needs the bolt tightening up with a suitable Allen key to remove the excessive play (checking that the stand still pivots easily) and then the 17mm locknut on the rear needs tightening up nice and tight so that it won't come loose again.

I have had no further loosening of these bolts on either scooter since they were tightened correctly, but other users prefer to fit a suitable nyloc nut on the rear to ensure it can't work loose again.

If you cannot easily stretch the secondary spring over the retaining pin, you will need to have someone hold the bike upright while you remove the pivot bolt completely to allow the spring to hook over the pin on the frame. Then gently ease the stand back into position whilst trying not to overstretch the springs in the process. I found that the pivot bolt was much easier to tighten with the stand held in the raised position, as the springs do not get in the way of the Allen key with the stand fully up.

When it's all back in place, give both ends of the springs and the stand pivot a good squirt with some spray grease to reduce wear and allow it to pivot more easily.

Re: Where does this spring go?

Great pickup, and thanks for taking the time to not just describe the problem, but highlight it in my photo. I really appreciate this. I'm sure I otherwise would have just hooked it back over, and then gotten frustrated that it was breaking again.

Will probably not get time until this weekend to look at it properly, but will definitely be checking out the mechanism thoroughly, according to what you've said before putting it back together and lubricating it up.

Thanks again.
