Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

So,my question....if I want the same mc1014b config as i have now, but with cruise control operating, is there an appropriate file please?

So, you haven't checked the box... Go to the box, and look for your MC1014b version with CC...

Of course I checked the box....but the version I have is "mc1014b.hex".

what am I missing here?

Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

Well this seems to be about the right place to ask this question...My NiMhi batteries seem to be toast - no matter what I do they just seem to heat up....so I figure its time to go lithium. More than happy/capable to do the job myself - the question is simply what technology to use?
Normal Lithium batteries; around 40?
18 or 19 Leaf cells without BMS
18 or 19 Leaf cells with BMS
18650 cells - not really interested in all the spot soldering so that makes this difficult.

Despite what others have said I believe it very important to have some thermal management of lithium batteries - I would be looking to be keeping the plenum fans - running continuously as I have been with the Lairds software.

Curious to hear of peoples experience in the various technologies.

I will be picking 1 and going with that...

Thanks for your input.

Ok...I had another look...none of those files appear to be suitable, sadly, so I remain without CC with Sandy's software.

Aircon, There are 3 different MC1014bCC files inside the box, they change low voltage limit, and max voltage during regen. If none of them suits your needs, maybe you can ask The laird team for a custom MC1014b file with CC...

18 or 19 Leaf cells with BMS

My choice, 9 modules 82Ah heat resistant superleaf with vectrix BMS + vectrix PCB adapters. A blast to ride, full firmware compatibility, a time saver, easy, straight installation.

The batteries stay cool, internal resistance is pretty low. In my opinion, if you use heat resistant chem there's no need to carry those impellers, but it is your conversion, keep them if you think they will be worth.

You mean 19 modules, right ?

Where did you sourced them ?
At a Nissan dealer ? Wrecking Yard ?

Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

IF you use the 82ah you can only use (9 modules which have two modules inside each modules which makes 18 packs.2016-09-02 14.05.06_1.jpg

Ahhhhhh!!!!!

True!
The new Nissan Leaf cells are composed that way!

Unfortunately, vectrixparts only have the old type of Nissan Leaf cells... I would prefer to use these new cells instead, because they mean less parts to service, are prepared to cope with the MC power demand and have better resistance to eat.

I am open to all sorts of suggestions - did not know that there were new Nissan cells - anyone know where I can source these cells from - I am European based.

Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

Only 18 cells ? Thats a shame, can't they be separated so you could squeeze in the extra cell making 19 ? Surely they come apart ?
They must be manufactured separately - see this stock photo.

Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

Tried all the local Nissan suppliers down here in the South of France and sadly they are really not very helpful. I really don't know where I can source these from - they freak out when I tell them I want to buy 19 cells...Sadly my Vectrix has to wait until I can find a solution....

Try junk yards (parc à ferraille?), you may be more lucky there...

Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

Hello everyone,
Its been a very long while since I last posted anything - life got in the way but I won't bore you with that. Anyway, its 2025, new house, new wife :-) I have a problem - my Vectrix has been in hibernation for 3 years and I recently got it out to charge it and see how my lack lustre care of it had effected its performance. Much to my amazment, there was still charge in the batteries after all this time but not enough to move it. So I plugged it in to charge and waited for a big bang & fire (I did this outside). What do you know, it charged to its original capacity of 156v and started first time. I would love to get this running properly again but I see there is little or no support for these bikes anymore, or is there ? Please let me know. My main worry is that the front bearings are completely seized, I am happy to replace the wheel if one is available. All the other problems such as brake fluid replacement, lubrication, tyres, etc are easy to sort. I would dearly love to get this running fully again and report back about the condition of the cells after 15+ years and 34,246 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Electric traction is the future.

Re: My 'simple' Leaf cell conversion

Hey... no need to replace the entire front wheel! Replace the bearings!! I did so and noticed a considerable increase in range...what a difference a good bearing makes.
The bearings for the front wheel are listed in this thread/post ; https://visforvoltage.org/forum/8739-front-bearing-rusted

EDIT: but before you order parts take the front wheel off... remove the bearing --> the bearing part number will be on the race cover.
EDIT 2: also be careful with the seals....once removed coat them with a silicon or rubber rejuvenator (sp?) before reuse.
