Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

Wow, waterproofing was the very next topic I was going to address so Boca, you read my mind!

Despite having asked X-treme to call me, after 2 full business days, the tech posted a response to the ticket yesterday. I replied again asking that someone call me; my response also included a monetary breakdown of what it would cost them to simply replace the main body of the scooter because of the damage, albeit probably comparatively slight, to the frame. I'm not holding my breath on that one, however, and will probably have to wait now until early next week on it. It's gonna cost a pretty penny for me to ship that wheel.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

Have you sent them your broken hub motor/wheel? This really is not the kind of repair that you can do yourself.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

I asked them, twice, to call me. The last time Thursday afternoon. I didn't know whether to take off the tire and tube or leave them on and I didn't want to post the question because that would just put me at the end of the line again! Fiddlesticks!

I'm leaving them on and shipping the whole wheel, sans brake, tomorrow. I made it pretty clear that the freewheel hub/sprocket, axle, and hub motor should be replaced, not repaired. (I've marked everything with a Sharpie so I'll know if anything original's returned. Just curious.)

looooong, deeeeeep, sigh.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

Day 39—Yay! Just received a phone call from X-Treme. Entirely new wheel, nuts, and washers to ship Monday. By the time I receive the wheel, I'll have my new puppy and can use the scooter to get more puppy supplies . . . oh, wait, and stuff for my family I guess. :D

Day 46—and the beat goes on...

Wheel received in good order. The washer sent, however, is not the same as the original washers.

See attached OldNuts&Washers.jpg. The wheel was originally installed with 2 nuts and one regular washer outside the sidearm and one locking washer and one regular washer inside the sidearm.
OldNuts_Washers.jpg

See attached NewNuts&Washer.jpg. New wheel includes only 2 nuts and one washer with no other hardware. I have no idea how to install this. Please instruct ASAP.

Anyone?

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

four lock washers better than two. Each pointing on a different direction. Each lip(on the lock washers must go on the groove where the shaft slides in preventing it from turning over . Just make sure the flat sides on the washer fits tightly on the flat sides on the shaft preventing rotation. Outer diameter should be either 1/2 inch 0r 3/8.As long as the shaft won't turn you won't make your wires into pretzels .

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

So I would put the new washer outside the sidearm and the old locking washer inside it? I have no idea what screw and nut I would use to secure that new washer. They didn't include anything for that. In addition, the inside ring of the old locking washers was damaged by the spinout and I'm reluctant to reuse them!

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

The lockwasher generally goes near the nut. Sometimes there is a washer on eBikes with a tab that gets installed next to the dropout ("sidearm") with the tab in the slot, where the tab helps to keep the wheel from spinning.

The main reason I am posting, though, is that it looks from your picture that your dropout has been "rounded". I can see the outline of the washer where the dropout is rounded. If this is as it looks, DEFINITELY do not install the axle where the dropout is rounded. This is important. It would be better to install the hub more toward the front of the bike, even if it means leaving the chain off or replacing a link in the chain with a half link to shorten the chain a little bit.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

The twin threaded holes on top each side suggest something like an L shaped torsion arm to b set in place. One good washer won't hold a hollow shaft that has already turn.

A bit of hope! Just received a phone call and the tech agreed that the frame has been damaged! Working on exchange! :D

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

I've contacted X-Treme through your original service ticket, AztecFemBone.

I've also contacted PayPal and filed a dispute for payment.

I will contact you immediately as soon as I hear something from either direction - this has gone far enough.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

Thank you, AF. Sincerely.

It's now been 2 months. How this is NOT a deliberate attempt by X-Treme to dodge the issue, I do not know. If they just do the exchange I proposed from Day 1, they would not lose a penny. I Just. Want. MY SCOOTER!

Believe it. Bill's next on the chopping block.

Watch as they secretly take Bill's current job and replace it with an unemployment line. Let’s see how people react.

LOL

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

They've authorized a return for a refund BUT I get to ship it at my expense. So my options are 1) ship it back and eat the $100+ loss or 2) try to repair/work around the damaged frame and pray.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

I thought about this for a while before answering.

You have a lot of time and energy invested in the XB-500. You now know why the XB-600 costs a little more - better controller, removable battery box, MORE ROBUST REAR HUB MOTOR MOUNT, etc.

Since you ended up with something of a lemon of a bike, you should ask them if they would give you credit for the retail price of the XB-500 toward the purchase of an XB-600, you will pay to ship the XB-500 back to them and they pay to ship the new XB-600 to you.

There seems to be big differences between the various models of these electric mopeds. The XB-600 seems to have caught onto the right combination of components that makes that model a bargain, and a more reliable bike.

You would end up losing the cost of shipping the bike back, but you have learned a lot for your money. You will be amazed at how much nicer it is to have a bike you can depend on, day after day after day.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

I agree with Bocabikeguy get rid of the 500 and go for the 600. You'll be happier in the long run.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

I doubt it.

At this point I'd suggest staying away from X-Treme completely. This has been 100% BS from day one.

I have a customer who just bought an XB-600. Arrived in good shape, except is missing one of the pedals. In this instance the customer actually wants to be able to pedal it, but can't. So, I send them to open up a service ticket with X-Treme to get the parts sent to them... apparently, though, X-treme is out of stock.

So another unhappy customer of mine, thanks to the morons at X-Treme and/or the idiots who make these and box them up.

Re: Replacing XB-500 controller

I've decided to keep this beast and try to get it working. I managed to work in the new washers they sent me with the old ones but the old ones are rounded out and useless. I Dremeled and washered and sanded and worked with the brake hub for a couple of hours but couldn't figure out why when I tighten the nuts it tightens the brake against the wheel, thus freezing it. I went ahead and ordered a new brake and pray they'll send me the right washers ASAP! What a mess. :(
