Newbie needs help

I am brand new to the electric bicycle world. I'd like to spend about 1,000. For reasons that I can not explain I want to use the 36v dewalt batteries. I would like to emulate if possible. My main concern however is just how fast I will be able to go and how far. On my roadbike I average about 15 mph over 15 miles.

Hub motors - front vs. rear mount

I'm new to ebikes but want to get started on one soon. I have a 14 mile commute that I am already doing part of by bike. I would like to do it all by bike but want to try an ebike so I can get it done faster than I can by pedaling alone.

Could someone give me a brief rundown on the pros/cons of front vs. rear mounting hub motors? From what I have read on the boards, torque rotating the axle can be a problem in the front fork, is this also a concern when mounted in rear?

Thanks

Experiences with "Charger" electric bike?

Does anyone have or have experience with the charger electric bike?

http://abc.eznettools.net/D300013/X300109/eBike1.html

It is impossible to search for with the name "Charger". On another forum a while ago someone had one and really liked it. I think I might give up on my Z-20, it was larger then I thought it would be anyway. Or at least use it for a different task and use the “charger” to go to and from work. I am moving to about 1 mile from my work, but our new home is about 500 feet above here.

Whats so great about the newer electric bikes?

I have a Giant LaFree 2002 Pedelec and I always read about the newest greatest bike. I picked up a Popular Mechanics and read about the Giant Twist Freedom DX. It looks like a nice bike, but it seems they stripped it down to make it lighter and go farther. It has a 250 watt motor and no special spot to secure and carry the battery.

The only downside I notice with my bike is it's overly heavy at 70 Lbs. I could strip it down and get liFe batteries, that would make it weight in at 50 Lbs. other than that what are the advantages of the newer bikes?

Deron.

Wiring brushless Etek, cable guage?

I am in the process of wiring up a brushless Etek to a Sevcon Millipak for my electric mountainbike conversion. What guage of welding cable would you guys recommend? I was looking at the stuff from electricvehiclesusa.com. I will be running 100 amps continuous and up to 250 amps for a 30 second burst. The batteries I am using are three B&B HR22's, for a 36V system. Thanks!

Choosing a Relay

Hi,
I'm new to the forum (been reading for some time, but never posted), and to ebikes as well (converted my trek last year). This year I'll be modifying my setup to fix a couple of issues I found.

A little background on my setup:
26" Trek Mountain Bike
Crystalyte 406 Rear hub motor
36V 8Ah NiCd battery pack

The two main modifications I'll be making is:
Add a second battery pack (36V 8Ah NiCd again) and replace the throttle with my PDA (Palm OS).

CVT?

I just wanted to throw this out and see if anyones tried it. Anyhow i've been looking at CVT transmissions developed for pocket bikes and was wondering if anyone has tried something like this on an Ebike and to what result. The transmissions are cheap $50-$80 and are quite tiny. It'd be nice to have a little more low end for the trails and still be able to cruise on road at what I'm doing now.

Quality of Liberty EB-643 vs XB-600

I am trying to make a decision as to which Bike, an X-TREME XB-600 or a Liberty EB-643, I should buy. Can anybody who has actually owned, as opposed to having an opinion on, either of these two machines advise me? I cannot seem to get any warranty or service information from any of the distributors for the Liberty EB-643. I am leaning toward the Liberty because of the extra power but I am not interested in purchasing a machine without either a written warranty and/or some sort of track record from an owner rather than a dealer.
Thanks
