EVG or EV Global 36v volt controller or compatibles
Submitted by david93705 on Mon, 11/16/2009 - 16:08I'm searching for EVG 36v controllers for the EBike LE. I'm trying to find out from the community if there is a substitute for the controller?
I had removed the controller from the bike but there are no signs of removing the casing to check the wiring inside and to see if there is a short. The controller looks like it was blocked together and not meant to be open.
If there is any other enthusiast who had luck in removing the casing from the controller that would be helpful as well and maybe I can replace the wires and other items from my local electronic store.
My main goal is to repair the controller or use another controllers that works well with the ebike with out to many modifications. I would like to see someone who might of redesigned their ebike 36v from another controller that works with theirs before and after modifications so I can continue.
Thank you in advance to those who help.

DIY generator on bike trailer
Submitted by deacon on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 09:24Here is what I think I know. If I hook a small gasoline engine to a brushed scooter motor and fire it up. the scooter motor will output electricity. I assume based on the backward engineering, the voltage will depend on the speed of the gasoline motor and how fast it turns the scooter motor.
I am assuming that as long as I keep it with the range of the controller, I could hook this to power my ebike. I am thinking pulling the whole thing on a trailer. And yes I know it defeats the basic principle of the ebike.
Just on the pure science or art of it, will this work.
I have a few extra motors around and I know that pocket bikes use the same sprocket. It would seem to be an easy fix to hook the two together on a trailer and use my superior electric motor as a drive source for the bike while running it off the generated current.

In Singapore: Unapproved motorised bicycle users receive summonses
Submitted by reikiman on Sun, 11/01/2009 - 14:45Maybe someone who knows a thing or two about Singapore can explain this. The article says the Singapore police are cracking down on "unapproved motorised bicycles" that "do not meet safety standards". It goes on to claim such bicycles endanger others. The penalty is "fined up to S$1,000, or jailed for up to three months for the first offence". They explain that legal bicycles have motors up to 200 watts and a control system that cuts the motor once the rider gets to 25 km/h

Hurm.. I visited Singapore in Feb 2002 and among the few things I remember is they have a congestion charge system. The taxi driver who drove us to the Jurong Bird Park explained this box on his dashboard, that every car had a limited number of days they could drive in the city center, and that there were fees/fines if they didn't obey. Seems to me e-bicycles should be encouraged to reduce traffic congestion in a city that's already concerned about traffic congestion. Especially in a place as small as is Singapore. An electric bicycle should be perfect there.
But it is a good idea to have standards and safety requirements. Maybe this has to do with safety? The power limits are pretty harsh though.
How do you tell a normal spark from a short circuit?
Submitted by pockyrevolution on Thu, 10/29/2009 - 23:01Hi all,
I'm installing a 750W 36V rear hub brushless motor onto a SLA system. Once everything is connected, with the throttle control on off, I get a huge spark when I make the final connection between the controller and the batteries.
I've been reading on this forum that the spark can be considered normal, since some capacitors inside the controller are being charged for the first time.
But how do I tell between a short circuit and a normal spark? I'm a bit afraid because the spark makes a loud pop and a bright light. I have the power connector soldered from the batteries, and the other end of the connector from the controller. Do I just put the two together and hold on tight? What kind of risk is there for electrocution? =) Thanks!

How do you like ecospeed
Submitted by Dave Signartist on Wed, 10/28/2009 - 17:18I currently ride a Sun EZ-1 with a electro cycle e4 Mid drive kit and a 20AH 24v Lithium battery. I have been mostly satisfied with this setup but am interested in moving up to a better quality bike and going with the ecospeed product. They are a bit pricy and I would like to hear from others who have them and see if they think they are worth the extra cash. Also I would seek others experience with lithium batteries. I have an ebay battery. Not Ping and I have had some serious voltage drop problems with it after less than a year.

XB-600 Question
Submitted by gmiears on Wed, 10/28/2009 - 08:35I was riding my xb-600 yesterday when the motor quit working for a couple of seconds, then started up again for a couple of seconds. This continued for the last quarter mile of my trip. Is this a controller, throttle or brake problem?

XB600 and Tesla
Submitted by gushar on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 06:59The local power company in my area has a Tesla and recently put it on exhibition at a local event. I attended and thought I'd share a few pics I took. Since I rode my XB600 to the event I couldn't resist having the XB600 in a couple of shots!

xb-500 Lights and horn no longer work where is the fuse for these?
Submitted by krig on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 13:07I was riding in a light rain with my lights on and tried using horn. The lights shut off and horn no longer worked. I took almost all of the panels off and tried to find the fuse for the lights which i assumed was the problem but I cannot locate any fuse but the 30amp for the main power. Can anyone tell me where the light/horn fuse is located?
