Rain riding

How good would you guys think the xb-600 is in rain riding?

Also, I've found that my bike goes about ~22mph on regular straightaways. I've been curious as to whether all the bikes do this, or if they just go to 20 at top speed.

Re: Rain riding

I'm with you on teh ~22-23 mph on regular flat roads according to my xb-600 speedometer... on up hills with the shunt mod the slowest I go is 20mph

Re: Rain riding

Having seen all the wiring beneath the seat of my XB-600, I would vote for it being not very water proof. Certainly you wouldn't want to ride through any deep puddles.

As for stock speed, I think mine went about 23 mph, according to the built in speedometer, which is probably high. So somewhere between 20 and 23 mph is likely. It certainly goes much better on 60 volts, and with the shunt mod.

Re: Rain riding

My Xb-600 goes 23mph on straightaways. Faster down hills not using the throttle. I can get up to 20mph much faster with the shunt mod, still waiting on my battery and charger for the complete 60 volt upgrade.

As for the rain, my bike was outside during a HEAVY downpour, I believe we received almost 2" that day. When we took the battery out to do the shunt mod, there was water in the housing. Not a lot but enough to get a towel to wipe it out. That was one week after the downpour. Guess I'd better check the housing right away next time!

Re: Rain riding

Hello all,

First I would like to say that I try to take good care of my scooter. I asked this same question about a year ago and the reply I got was:

(part of post deleted)...

The motor controller seems to be mounted under the scooter just in front of the center kick stand. Somewhat exposed to the elements if you were to ask me. Any one ridding in the rain?

Ride safe,
JamesS

It's there so the air can keep it cool, it's sealed pretty good, but don't advise going through standing water regularly. The braking is the biggest problem in the rain. It also rains in China, and they don't just stop going to work and stuff just because it rains.

So with that in mind, I have had my share of rides in the rain. I wash the scooter about every other week and use a garden hose to rinse it. I spray every where and don't worry about it. 1773 miles and no problem with water yet.
When I pulled the controler last week to do the shunt mod all the connectors looked fine, no corrosion. The only place that the rain water seems to give me any grief is in the left rear turn signal. Parking the bike on the side stand when wet allows dirty water to run into the lamp housing. I guess I should dab a little silicon caulk where the wires enter the lamp and be done with that.
Your milage may very, but there are times you are going to get caught in the rain :(

Re: Rain riding

Thanks, we don't get too much rain down but because of the expected thunderstorm tomorrow in Lombard I'm thinking of taking the car instead. I'd much rather not the kickstand or the maintenance stand get rusted any more than they are because of the welding.

If it can't be done then you just haven't tried hard enough.

Re: Rain riding

Also as far as doing the shunt mod did you guys just remove the outside plastic fairing and just remove the controller?

Re: Rain riding

Thanks. Although Trying to remove those last time I did have a bit of trouble. I'm going to try again this weekend if I get the chance.
