The bike has a 24v 8.8 amp motor, 2 12 volt 12 amp hour lead acid batteries wired in paralel, and a 250 watt universal controller with a twist grip throttle.
Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

I tried to write a decent description of all the parts and process of making it in detail, but it is really long and I have bad writing skills. If you need any information in particular about what a part is and where it is from, or why something is where it is I can post it for you, just reply and ask.
I meant to say the batteries are wired in series, not paralel, my bad!
how is the left-side sprocket mounted to the wheel?

This needs a fully enclosed chain guard !!! Also watch the wood piece touching the brake mechanism - It might slow you down a bit. Weight is to high for practical use. All Wires and electrical connections also need to be fully enclosed. FYI Electric bikes are required to have a brake to motor cut off.ie. when you pull the brake the motor cuts off.
"think outside the car"
Looks like there's six bolts through the sprocket and a flange inside of the spokes, although I can't see the whole thing. Seems the same as the moped engine kit I've been putting together. But a much nicer sprocket, I'll take it.
WHo dares, WINS!!!!
The sprocket on the left side of the axle is welded in place, not bolted. The bike is working, but there are still things that need work, like the chain guard, motor cut off etc.
Interesting. It looks like you had fun making this ebike. No chain guard looks dangerous but like you say, you're still working on refinements. I've though of trying a project like this. I don't think I'd ride it on the street because of the power and weight but it would be fun to build.
