Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

A question: What you recorded on your - so far - newest youtube clip, "ERider 5000w rear wheel", was that a recording of your PDT scooter already? I ask because it sounds exactly like my Kelly-propelled motor, far from silent

No, that is a recording of the old chinese controller model scooter, not PDT.

Ah bummer! I just saw on my youtube account that my video is ONLY blocked in Germany. Grrr. No problem. I will upload again tonight after work using NO music :( just sound of wind and the scooter. Or I could try YouTube's audio swap feature.

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Hi again,

I am uploading my iPhone version (960x544) to youtube now. Once Youtube complains about the upload I will do an "Audio Swap" that will allow it to be played in Germany...i hope.

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

IFImotors... I have a question.

My wife's scooter has trouble starting as if tonight :-(

When we turn the key on the dashboard green light flashes 6 times and the green light on handle bar stays in solid. I found out it is because the throttle is not set right. If I push it back (slow down direction) the green light (handle bar) will flash and then I can hit the start button and all is fine.

My scooter has about 3-4mm of travel before my green light goes solid. Amandas bike has LESS than half a mm! Sometimes when the spring returns the throttle back to 0 that is not enough and the green light stays solid. So I have to push it back about 1mm.

Is there a mechanical way to adjust the 0 point or is it software controlled?

Phillip.

Thanks Phil, at least the lower resolution version worked here now, including the music... I bet it will blocked again shortly, but who knows? I think Youtube once got sued by GEMA and is now so mad they are letting the German viewers "pay" for that. But the solution would be soooo easy, and I already fed that back TWICE to them: If they feel there is music on a video illegally just let it play in mute mode - problem fixed. But they appear to not be intelligent enough for such a simple solution :(

That bit at the gas pump vs. charging station was absolutely hillarious LOL!!! I LOVE it!
The only thing I didn't like was the shaking effect over quite a stretch of time, at the beginning and somewhere in the middle again. That kind of effect I think will only work if used for a few seconds at most, everything beyond that annoys more than it fascinates to observe that the shaking appears to be synchronzied with the music :) What I would also like from a video like this would be a demonstration of the relative silence. That would need a place like by the observatory with presumably little ambient noise, and the bike should start at a small distance from the camera and then accelerate towards and passed it at full "throttle", maybe aiming the mic down little towards the motor. This could also be put in stark contrast to a similar shot of an ICE-scooter barreling passed the camera :)

Otherwise I think this video should be endorsed by Erider and PDT as it is an excellent advertisement for their product! Great job!

Thanks but youtube have replaced the audio on that video so some random music is playing. The shaking effect goes in time with the original music and it all makes sense. Plus where the scooter drives past the camera I turn down the music and you can hear the scooter go "weeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooo" past the camera.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a petrol scooter but I can put my camera on a tripod and film the bike going past at various speeds, there will be no music so no chance of it getting blocked. My camera is just a handheld Samsung, it doesn't have any external microphones, just the built in ones.

Is there another video site I can upload with original sound or does Germany block them all?

Wow,

I received an email already detailing how to reset the throttle. Now I see how cool this PDT software is. It's just a matter of turning a key, push this button, wait for this etc etc. Same as viewing the battery voltage in the Prius.

Six easy steps to follow.

Thank You very much :)

I was just thinking of setting up your cam by a traffic light and filming a random scooterist taking off at green :) And with a built-in mic you would have to track the noise source with the camera - not as nice as a full bike shot, of course. But with a good microphone such precise tracking should not be necessary.
After watching the video a second time I realized that the shaky bits aren't that long at all, I guess I was just a little upset the first time around because I was interested in what was shown during those parts, I wanted a clear view of the exhibition and the charging point :) But first impressions can sometimes be valuable too.

Is there another video site I can upload with original sound or does Germany block them all?

It's not Germany that blocks youtube vids with music, it is youtube whose toes were stepped on by presumably UMG in this country... So any video site that was not sued by UMG should be an alternative :)

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Good post-production work on the vid, but it's a bit too 'Saturday Night Live' for me. I'd like to see a nice, straight-up video that focuses on the actual performance of the bike. I'm trying to get live footage riding my ZEV 5000 from a visor-mounted camera as a ride, but I'm having trouble. Maybe you can do better with one of those...

I don't have any helmet cams or anything. I only have a handy cam and the iPhone.

I don't have one either - just a little Kodak HD handheld cam. I drilled a hole trough the top of the visor and mounted the cam that way. Now I have to find a way to raise the angle at which it points...

Maybe if I just stick my little fuji digital camera to my chest? Or there is a 10mm bolt under the front headlights to hold the body parts on, I could make my own little bracket and bolt it there

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

The problem with mounting it out front under the headlight is that even if you get it aimed right, you don't see the bike at all - no instruments, bars, etc. You need to see the bike for it to "feel" like a video shot from a motorcycle. The chest mount would be better, if you can get it right. I tried the front pocket of my denim jacket, and shimmed the camera with paper toweling to try to get the right angle, but all I got was 10+ minutes of the left turn signal switch cluster and handgrip. ;-( I can get the 'visor cam' right, with a little more work...

I do have a "Flip Video" that I won in a raffle. I'll take it for a ride on my way to get some lunch and edit a quick video together. It's just small enough to fit inside the helmet and sit there.

Hi all,

I just passed 1370km without a problem.

Well I just made a video my shoving in a Flip Video into my helmet. I have just quickly put the video together and it is uploading to YouTube as I speak.

As requested, there are no special effects or music, just the SOUND of the bike....all you can "hear" is the wind, suspension, brakes and me breathing. Even at full acceleration and the dial winding up to 100km/h you still can not hear the motor!

The video goes for 9m54s so it JUST fits under the 10 minute YouTube limit.

I just went for a ride to get some lunch and then to the shops and back home. I even overtake some cars along the way.

I'll post the link when it's finished uploading.

Doing the job PROPERLY now on my iMac!! At least the mac never fails. 3% now and counting.

I'd love to see your video LeftieBiker!! I noticed your speedo go WAY past 100km/h

PCarlson, I am curious as to what kind of range you are seeing? I have the 4000Li and have put over 5100 miles on it since February. (live in Phx AZ where it rains maybe once a year). I have twenty of the 40ah Thundersky cells, and have installed a nice digital voltmeter which shows me my voltage right on the dash as I am riding. (not a cycle analyst, but close). I read 69 volts at full charge, and usually stop when my bike is close to 60 volts or lower. I had a range 5100 miles ago (brand new) of easily 45 miles. I would say my range now is right around 40. What kind of range are you getting?

Great! I am quite impressed with those CHL batteries and the little Sevcon that probably is allowed to use it's field weakening trick in order to reach this speed.
But I greatly encourage you put on some decent tires for the current and upcoming weather, the Cheng Shins are made for summer and mainly dry roads, cold and whet is a bad combination for those tires. And do you have a rubber flap shielding the upper edge of the battery box from the rear so no moisture can spray in there? It looks like there is something like this on your second pic.

I haven´t really decided yet if I will ride it through the winter but if I do I will definitively change tires.
I changed to some good Metzelers on my last scooter (XM3500), they are propably not very good in the winter though.
Yes, there is a rubber flap in the rear.

Wow, very nice bike!

It looks like your bike is faster than ours, most likely because is isn't limited to 110A. Plus I weigh more too.

What the acceleration like?

I know how to re-create the fault in the PDT scooter now. Just roll the bike back slowly and while it's rolling go hard on the throttle and the motor engages, pauses, and then decides to go very slow. This is what it does when trying to start from a stand still on a slope. I've been told that there is no such restriction, But with only 4 or 5 Amps going to the motor, There IS a restriction somewhere because on my eBike if I do the same thing, it dumps 25A into the motor and PULLS you along faster than this scooter. Whether PDT have put in a low speed current limit or whether it's in the Sevcon controller I don't know....but it's there and it's annoying. On BOTH our scooters.

It will pull a peak of maybe 116A sometimes but holds around 110A all the way, even at top speed it only dips down to maybe 95-100A

Hi Pete,

It's a bit hard to compare range between our scooters as I am running 8000W and you are only 4000W. But this is what I've tested in REAL WORLD driving.

My scooter has 24 CHL 50Ah cells making it a 72v 50Ah pack.

If I run at FULL speed non-stop I can only get 55-60km (46Ah used)

Riding at normal speed of 80km/h I get get about 70Km

Riding between 60-80km/h I have once gotten 80.2km and used 45Ah

Riding at 40km/h (too slow around here, but I tested it) I went 15km and used just 7.1Ah so I could get maybe 100km per charge.

However in saying that, my wife rode to her parents house on my scooter (I rode hers, same model) she only used 3.1Ah to make the 5.8Km trip, and we were going 60 and 80km/h at times. She weighs a lot less than me though.

But I have a cycle analyst and 3 years experience driving LiFePo4 bikes so without a BMS there is no way I like to take my battery past 45Ah until I have a BMS. I trust the Cycle analyst as it counts Ah perfectly

What the acceleration like?

The acceleration is propably like yours, a little slow when starting, but very good after.
I will visit a guy I know who has a Sevcon programming unit and find out how it´s programmed, maybe we can raise the startup current.

One thing I noticed is that at top speed there are quite severe vibrations because the tires are not put on evenly, you can clearly see this when you spin them with the scooter on the center stand, don´t know if this is an easy fix, have to check later.
