ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Spoke to Eric this morning (very helpful). I'll be getting a quote tomorrow for a Lightning Bolt and shipping to Perth (never a cheap thing) If all looks reasonable, I'll be placing an order. I fly model airplanes as my other hobby and have many years experience with LiPo and Life batteries and their management. I know what you mean about battery temperature, although in WA, the problem is dealing with the summer days with temps in the mid 30's plus most of the time :-)

All good though. I find this whole technology fascinating

temperature isn't that much of a problem - upper internal temp limit of LiFePO4 cells is 65 deg C

as long as there is a reasonable amount of plastic between the sun and the battery (which there is on those scooters) than you should be fine even on 45 deg C days.

I have had LiFePO4 cells in my vectrix since 2010, and haven't had an issue despite riding year round, including parking in the sun on 45 deg days

I wouldn't mind seeing what the build quality is like on the new mountain chen scooters

I had a 5kw thunder apart back before he started using sevcon controllers, and it was ok except for the plastic body (really hard to pull apart, or put back together)

that was a couple of years ago now

Thanks Matt, you are probably correct. We do terrible things to RC Lipo batteries that wouldn't be replicated with the ones in our scooters!!

Sure will! Staying off topic a moment. I fly the DJI Hexacopter with Nasi controller and GPS. I'm filming with the GoPro 3D kit, just incredible quality.

So how old are your batteries now?

Matt seems to be getting great longevity with daily use.

I think they last much longer with regular use and good management

I had a 5kw thunder apart back before he started using sevcon controllers, and it was ok except for the plastic body (really hard to pull apart, or put back together)

How true, how true... That is why I first asked my former dealer for some tips and then documented every screw and bolt and panel I took off the first time around and put it into a Word file for reference. I already sent it around to various folks with Thunders / GK183 / etc. And I still need it myself whenever I am forced to tear the thing apart - and put it back together properly. I am now down to 45minutes for a stripdown to the battery box, but putting back together can easily take double as long.

Now back to the proper content of this thread, VK2008 / Lightning :-)

Before you buy that scooter, have a look at the Goevcs scooters at Causeway Yamaha

they're no relation of mine, but it's worth having a look at most of the bikes in the segment

btw - do you have a motorbike licence?

most electrics bikes are LAMS listed

I did look at the Govecs as well as the ZAP 5000, both a bit small and underpowered for me, plus the instruments looked a bit naf.

In the end I ordered the ERider 8kw today, $5,900 inc. Should arrive here Oct 1st.

Yes, had a license longer than I care to think about. I use a gas scooter to commute at the moment and my fun ride is a Suzuki Boulevard M109r (see pic below)

jonnyfive: Sweet! After a bit of back and forthing and a slight delay, I'm finally getting mine (albeit, a 6kW bike with the 150A Sabvoton controller + eRider's new high efficiency motor) before the end of the week! Super excited!

I did register my Vectrix myself, but I didn't do much more than take it to the pits in welshpool

do make sure you have proof of ownership (paid invoice with your name and the bikes vin is enough)

also make sure the compliance plate is attached

look forward to seeing your new bike

Well, she has arrived and all is looking good.

The first appointment I could get with the vehicle inspectors is next Wednesday, so I have to be patient :-(

I've had a few dashes up and down my long, 220mtr drive and she certainly does fly.

Phil, there looks to be a couple of differences to your model, the charging point is under a little panel, not under the seat and I have the later charging gauge I think. Eric is sending on a manual at the weekend.

On that subject, I have to say that Eric has been excellent through the whole process, great communication and shipping was faultless. It really makes you feel confident you have good support if anything goes amiss.

Sorry about the picture quality, but its a bit gloomy here at the moment

More pics when I get things out and about.

One last question, I want to order a Cycle Analyst, but there seems to be a couple of variants. Do I get one with a shunt, or the one that plugs straight into the controller? (A Sevcon I believe)

Congratulations John on your new electric ride :-) Erider Australia's Eric seems to be one of the very few REALLY dedicated electric scooter importers on this planet, so you guys can count yourselves very lucky Down Under!

As for a Cycle Analyst you will need the "High Current Model (CA-HC)", and make sure to order the 0.5 mOhm external shunt for up to 150A continuous, 400A peak along with it. And if you are little geeky (like me) you might also want to get the Analogger with it.

The plugin version only works together with certain controllers that Grin Technologies tweak in order for this to work.

I have had the CA-HC in service for 1.5 years of continuous riding, and apart from two no longer working LH buttons in tht time it has worked wonderfully. And both times I got a new replacement front enclosure for free, Grin's service is quite outstanding too :-) We are currently trying to work out what exactly causes my LH button failures, which appear to be a rather unusual failure mode.

Mountain, I REALLY MEAN what I wrote, even though I am happy for you that things are beginning to pick up again. I have seen so many importers and dealers go down the drain in the last two years that I know for sure that people importing and dealing with electric two-wheelers with a solid business model and just as solid business ethics are a VERY rare breed indeed! Too many "black sheep" (and in part also their suppliers...) have very badly impaired the reputation of electric scooters here in central Europe, and you are suffering from these peoples' in some cases just unlucky conduct, but in others also just plain short-term greed :-(

And the "new kids on the block" first need to demonstrate their integrity, and prove to me (or rather the public at large) that they MEAN BUSINESS in the long term.

And yes, I have heard that the communal Puma & Co. order finally arrived in Austria last week, after a "mere" 4 moths in the making. It is now snowing in the Austrian mountains, summer is over and done with. Bad timing ;-)
And those Pumas still need some serious attention concerning the build quality! I have not yet seen nor heard very much, but the few bits I did see and hear clearly indicated that the bikes should get a serious overhaul before they are put into everyday use. But I am sure ZWV will get back to you on these issues in the very near future.
The good thing is that Puma seems to be visually very appealing to the folks here, and at least the 9kW version I heard of seems to have some serious oomph :-) Very mouth-watering...

Yes,PUMA delay such a long time because of BMS issue.

Now we use 2 separated DC converters so that every diagram is more reiliable than before.

I think they will post feeback from EU forum soon.

Phil, that is very exciting news! I currently havea Jetmax maxi scooter and the larger size suits me very well. What is the capacity of these batteries? If the range extends with the speed, it will definitely be a winner, certainly looks good

But I am a little confused, I thought it was a Puma or Maxi Puma ? Is that the 12,000w one?
Here is would be classified as a Motorcycle as it goes over 40mph.
Can you tell me, since I can not try one here, when you sit on it... Are your arms farther out on the handles then with your 8kw one ?
This is the only thing that might bother me. I am used to riding big cruiser motorcycles (but have ridden them all) and like distance from handles to seat.
I tested a small 50cc gas scoot the other day and the short reach to the handles really bothered me.

But now you see why I am saving money to get this one shipped to me :D
