Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

perhaps its also because it is done everyday from new, meaning the cells have significant balancing Ah per day and little chance to get out of balance.

Matt

I think that is the likely reason.

In addition, these packs might have been properly matched, by chance or design.

Cells with widely differing SDCR (Self-discharge-rate) would get destroyed even under such circumstances as Steve described.

Steven, what percentage of the bikes used every day(in cool England) to the red light twice from day one make it to this high mileage? Just a rough guess will do, like 1/3rd, 2/3 or almost all?

However, I do not think this usage pattern is conducive to very high mileages over the life span of the battery. The frequent equalisation stops them from a very early death due to single cell failures, but ages all cells due to the daily deep cycling.

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

At 8,000 + miles, I'm well on my way. However, you can't really compare an EV bike with a gasoline bike when talking about longer rides. The Vectrix was designed for local commuting and this it does quite well. I commute about 20 miles each way to work, plug in at work, and ride back home. If you have a similar commute then the Vectrix is ideal. If you have a longer commute then maybe not. I don't see the point in criticizing Vectrix, especially if you don't own/ride one.
I've had very few problems with mine: it has been in the shop less often then my gasoline-powered vehicles. If I can continue to ride it for a couple of more years it will have nearly paid for itself in maintenance and fuel cost savings. How is that for a reason to buy one?!

One of the guys in my local Vectrix club is at 29'000km on his first pack.

hes had to replace a couple of cells though.

My Own V just passed 20'000km.

What was the average mileage/kilometers per battery pack so far?

I am on 11K kilometers with my first pack at the moment.
So my average is 11K so far :-)

I'm not in yet, but I've passed 10.000km today:
//www.shrani.si/t/47/R8/2Oi5a1R5/dsc00037.jpg)

My 52 kilometer journey started with battery SOC at 100% (CP stage ending at 150V, CC stage ending at 149V) and battery temperature at 14°C and ended like this:

My 2nd battery is still looking healthy :-) after 6.000km done.

Nop. This is the same pack since 22000 kms. I had a problem with the controller and Vectrix Portugal changed them both (the controller and the battery pack). :)

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

I've joined the 30000km (or 18641 miles here in UK!) this morning! Late 2008 bike, first one in the UK to have the 68mph software. Ridden hard every day, all weathers.

Bring on the 60000km!

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

So I just rolled over 20,000 miles (32km) this week. About half that is on a new battery replaced under warranty two years ago, but my range has stayed pretty consistent over that entire period. I still get over 40 miles on surface streets, but that drops precipitously on the freeway or in cold weather.

My next personal milestone is 40,075km, the Earth's circumference.

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

Count me in, my bike rolled past 30,000km today

OK not all of it has done that mileage but most of it, I'm on my third set of batteries ( current ones have done approx 23,000km ), on my third set of tyres, two sets of brake pads and a bar end weight ( don't know where that fell off ). All done in about 3 3/4 years, and still love riding it like it was my first day.

Regards,
Peter

Do you use your friction brakes much?

I'm at 39'200km, and still on my original pads

I use regen always unless emergency braking for merely holding position though.

I only use the friction brakes at the begining of a ride after a full charge, so I don't put too much power back into the already full battery, also to give the disks a clean every morning. It's regen all the way for me too.

For some reason the second set of pads I had wore down really quickly for some reason.

Peter

My V will not regen with a full battery. Isn't that the same with all of them?

While true regen is ineffective with a full battery, having a full nimh battery is a bit of a rare occasion....

I experienced it only once when running nimh

even The Laird's charger firmware won't get the battery that full (the limitation is just a max volt limit)

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

I'd be awesome if the NZ govt did anything like this. Sadly they offer ZERO incentives and it was even a worry that it would cost me per KM riding in extra fuel taxes, luckily it doesn't !

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

wellcome pyjohnson.
I'm on my 4rth set of batteries, 3rd rear set of tires (2nd on the front) 2nd set of brake pads, all done in 4,5 years, 40.500 km and still love to ride it everyday. I'm wondering how long will that 4rt battery last, and what kind of lithium will install on it...

Hello everyone. :-).

I have now 4 years of Vectrix riding. In the first 3, I have done 52.000 KM with a 2008 VX-1 NiMH Green. Today, it has a new owner and 57.000 KM (35.000 KM with this last battery).
Since last year, I have been riding a VX-1 Li+ Black. It has 20.000 KM. I know that I have to replace the battery and receive a new software soon. Vectrix did not achieve success with the Li+ in the first attempt...

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

Well, I´m I "only" reached the 21.000Km mark yet but the last 20.000 Km no changings at the battery where necessary.
Changed the front tire 1st Time after 19.000 Km, rear it is the 3rd set (11.000 Km, 8.000 Km, 2000 Km yet).
Looking forward to the 30.000 ;-)

Re: How many vectrix reached 30.000km?

Dang, I'm definitely behind the times! '07 bike purchased in '09. I've just surpassed the 10K km mark, but everything on the bike is still original excepting the main fuse (replaced purely as a precautionary measure) including tires, brakes, batteries, gear lube, etc. The bike is starting to have issues with my standard 16 miles each-way commute (recharging at each end), but this includes several miles of 50mph+ travel and I've yet to short out any of the cells so I'm hoping that doing this modification on a wayward cell or two might restore reliability.

Great to see so many people working together to keep these bikes rolling mile after mile!
