Emax key switch replacement

Hi folks...I'm trying to help my "new" friend who is also a member here with replacing the key switch on the E-Max Standard he has. I'm asking rather than him since he doesn't have much technical experience and so I can probably take anyone's reply and explain it to him perhaps in more less technical terms. Just trying to help. He has this E-Max Standard for sale in the community forum (if you saw my other post) and I was going to buy it but the shipping was quite high...and I'd have to do it that way since he's 400 miles away and I couldn't make a trip there. But believe me it's a good deal. Anyway, he seems like a nice fellow and I really appreciated his patience with me asking questions, etc. and I'm just trying to help him in replacing a damaged key switch so he might get a sale faster on it locally in his area. So, can anyone help us out here?

I've looked at the key switch wiring diagram posted on the manual section here for the E-Max. Looks to me that the switch has two wires physically connected to it...and simply switching power across as switches do. Could someone "in the know" email me and explain anything they know about replacing this switch...how it's held in place, if it's just switching low voltage...or motor voltage...etc. And also, does anyone know if that key switch is one used in other scoots...and if so where it might be purchased from?

Much thanks in advance for any help here.

Re: Emax key switch replacement

The emax key switch has four wires, but only two are used - the two that provide simple SPST off-on action.

It is easily removed by first removing the plastic front fairing piece. then, remove the plastic key-hole bezel and the screws that mount the key switch it to the frame.

It looks like it is just a standard Chinese scooter part - you can probably get one from any Chinese scooter dealer. As far as internet/mail order I've been happy with these guys - give them a phone call...

BTW, E-Max Owners

Since the recent discontinuation of E-Max business operation in the US, many of E-Max's previous dealers and services locations have since ceased operation. We, GreenEmotor, would like to know what we can do to help. Whether you are a dealer looking for parts or an owner looking for your vehicle to be serviced, we are here for you. We have a warehouse full of parts in our Santa Clara location with trained scooter professionals ready to assist you.

I also have a contact in China, that can get E Max parts, let me know if you want me to ask him or give him your contact information.
Parts available:
- Batteries
- Chargers
- Motors
- Controllers
- Plus more

If you happen to be close by our office, come by and check us out. And yes, we have a trade-in program too.

Re: Emax key switch replacement

The scooter bulbs are pretty much standardized.

Check the existing bulb for markings indicating the voltage and wattage (denoted low beam/high beam - like "35/35"). They make a 35 watt halogen version and also higher wattage regular bulbs - but you have to watch out you don't overload the dc-dc converter. I replaced mine with a 35 watt halogen.

Any bulb on this page: http://www.scooterpartsdirect.com/search.php?page=7&cat_id=10&subcat_id=32&subsubcat_id=106&men_id=
will work, and I was happy with their service.

I got the $9.95 35W/35W halogen bulb and it is a significant improvement over the regular 35W/35W bulb. The 60W bulb would be brighter yet.

Thanks, I never thought of overloading the dc-dc converter, guess I should check it first. The current bulb is 12 Volt/10 watt I believe. I'm like a Candle in the wind, can't see nothing ahead of me.
