How many amps?

The curiosity I've been having for awhile is what is the actual power use on my motorcycle. The curiosity is partly due to the range I've been getting (actually not getting) since in the past it had a hard time delivering more than 10 miles range whereas other e-motorcycles such as on the evalbum are supposedly delivering more like 20 miles range with an equal size pack to what's on the Lectra. However a couple weeks ago I fiddled with the rear end, put a little bit of slack into the chain, and the performance improved dramatically and it's now easy to get 10 miles range.

help with power choice

I would like to do a project like RQ Riley's urbatrike. The general idea is an advance motor belt drive. I would like to use li batteries but I dont understand battery terminology.
Now I know there are a lot of factors involved, 40 mph is average speed and I have a 50 mi round trip to work. My big question is how big of a battery pack am I seting myself up for. http://www.rqriley.com/u-trike.htm thanks elect3

The electrical system

This post will probably be the biggest one. Plugging everything was the biggest challenge. I managed to reconfigure all the Wiring to get everything to work, using the wiring diagram provided by Milleym (http://visforvoltage.org/forum/3712-xb600-wiring-diagram-groovy). Since my old luyuan bike had two 48v battery pack, I wanted to plug them in parallel to be able to get more amps to the motor. Here is how I did that.

Traveling without driving

I'm traveling for a couple days and am in Sacramento for the national Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO) conference. Maybe it's odd for peak oil advocates to travel from around the country to meet, who knows, but I chose to travel without driving. The conference is in Downtown Sacramento and there is an Amtrak station right in downtown, and it's relatively easy to get to Amtrak from my home, so I walked to the train station, dragging a small bag with my clothes, rode the train, and then walked the 1 block from Amtrak station to my hotel.

Piaggio Boxer-EV conversion (almost) finished

My replacement servo-tester finally came in yesterday (a saga in itself). I immediately tore it apart and replaced the potentiometer in it with a cable so that it could plug into my Magura throttle. The design of this replacement looks very simple. All discrete components: a 555 timer IC, rectifier, and some caps. I think I'll try to reverse engineer it so that I can just build it myself next time.

I have been working on additional battery cooling systems to extend battery life for my Vectux.

Keeping NiMH batteries cool is one of the most important parts of looking after them.
