Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Just checked out Vectrix's new website, and they seem to have been able to squeeze in a 5.4kWh (128v, 42Ah) Lithium Iron Phosphate battery into their 'baby' scooter, the VX-2.

That's some serious capacity in a very compact package. CHL/Mountain Chen - anything new from your end? Be good to find out if there are any significant technology upgrades to the scooters and the battery systems.

the 128v 42Ah battery is that of the VX1 Li+, where as the scooter pictured is the VX2, which is basically an Emax

having said that, that Emax battery box will fit 15 x 100Ah cells, so 4.8kwh is achievable

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

On vectrix.com I could only see those batteries in the VX-1. In the VX-2 there were lead-acid 48V 60Ah, maybe you found it somewhere else?

They use lead-silicone batteries, not lead-acid. My experience with these batteries, after about 3.5 years on the XM and a couple of seasons on the ZEV, is that they are better than lead-acid. Extremely low self-discharge, and no discernible loss of capacity yet. And, unlike the lithium packs, they are perfectly reliable, require little effort to use, and are trouble-free. At least mine have been so...

Definitely got it from the Vectrix website. Go to the VX-2 model page, click on the 'Features' tab, then click on the blue circle over the battery pack is.

Possibly an error since the graphic doesn't line up with the details in the 'Specs' tab?

It´s most likely a web error, don't see a reason to equip a 45km/h scooter with a 128V pack...

Darn! Me being wishful, I guess...

Johnny J, MERoller, other Thunderbolt owners: I was wondering what the under seat storage capacity of the Thunderbolt's like? Does it swallow a full face helmet? Any chance you could take a photo or two of the storage compartment? I can't seem to find any images of the Thunderbolt's storage space on the net. Thanks in advance!

Hi branng, Thunder has it's own thread, you might want to post your request on that one:
http://visforvoltage.org/forum/11490-impressions-my-erider-thunder-5000w?page=3
We Thunderers have frequently hijacked this (in effect) VK2008 thread, but the more fiting place would surely be a.m. thread. I will see what I can find in my treasure cove...

Update: 20 May 2013 @ 10,698km

OK well the cold has definitely set in. It was -3.5°c this morning at 7am and I felt it. My poor scooter has no place but to live on our porch next to the air-conditioner box blowing freezing cold air onto it while heating our unit. But this morning driving into work was absolutely normal! I couldn't detect any loss of power and even the up-hill onramp I could easily get up to 85+km/h (80km/h zone) to merge with traffic while the voltage only hit a minimum of 71.6v

On another note, I just got a GoPro Hero3 Black and will attach a mount to my scooter and may upload a video of my ride from home to work onto youtube.

Update: 22 May 2013 @ unknown KM (I forgot to look)

Today I rode into work in a heavy frost and blistring cold -3.4°c. I got to the on-ramp for the 80km/h zone but there was a car that didn't know how to use a merge lane so we all stopped still. Once the cars had gone I accelerated from 0km/h up the incline and voltage sagged to 70.8v and by the time I passed the white sign (my marker) I was doing 91km/h?!?! Yet, the other day I merged fine at 50km/h and only hit 86km/h at the white sign? So even though the voltage was sagging heavily it doesn't seem to affect the performance. My legs were like ice yet the scooter still performed fine :)

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

I am catching up with you km-wise :-)
Could it be that you had a nice tailwind today during your acceleration? On the other hand, the strong 120A limit in your controller will see to it that you do not feel the ill effects of cold battery temp. as much as my only mildly curtailing controller does. Voltage sag however should have a grave effect on max. speed, even with a Sevcon.

As for your legs: do you have some proper bikers pants, or do you just ride in jeans? The former should help alleviate the cold greatly, especially when you hide your knees well behind the fairing. The other option is long underwear, and kneeguards like for mountian biking etc. will also do wonders in keeping your knees from frostbite.

Update: 29 May 2013 @ 10,877km

Today it was 3.8°c with 0km/h wind. Once again riding up the uphill onramp I managed to get up to 88km/h by the white sign. So oddly enough if my voltage sags below 72v then the bike will pull more amps which actually makes it accelerate faster. Not much, just a few km/h over a 200m ramp.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my story from yesterday. My Boss was visiting the office so I had to meet him before 8:30am so I left early and drove pretty much FULL THROTTLE all the way. Then at 10:30am I had to run home and back for some documents quickly, again Full Throttle. Then home again for lunch at 1pm and back, then home for good at 5pm. Because most of the time I was in a rush I stuck to the 80km/h zones and stuck to 80-82km/h all the way which is just about top speed (95km/h on the speedo). When I got home, I noticed I had covered 39.8km and consumed 39.75Ah! That's pretty much the worst fuel economy I could ever get, but the bike handled it fine! Min voltage was 70.2v with Max amps of 166A.

Update: 4 June 2013 @ 10,974km

Well, today was a blistering -3.8°c ride into work. Even my ANTI-fog liner was starting to fog up. My fingers were like ice and my thighs won't defrost until lunch time. But I'm happy to say the eRider 8000w scooter performed perfectly. The voltage did sag down to 70.2v under full acceleration. On the weekend I mounted my new GoPro Hero 3 Black camera on my helmet and filmed my ride into work in amazing 2.7k resolution. Thats 2.7 times the resolution of 1080p. The 9 minute ride took up around 2-3Gb so I better compress it before I upload to youtube.

I have watched, I think, all of your You tube videos and love them.

But I noticed that you are driving on all nice flat newish type roads.

Do you ride on any bumpy or not so smooth roads ?

just curious how the bike handles.

Hi Tigger,

Thanks for the comment. The scooter does have suspension but given my weight I don't get very smooth ride. I try to avoid bumpy roads because you do feel it. It's raining today but when it's clear again, I'll strap on my new GoPro and show you how the bike handles some rough roads.

Update: 17 June 2013 @ 11,137km

It was a blistering cold morning this morning at 2°c but oddly there was no frost or fog. I rode into work and once again the scooter performed great. The voltage sagged to 70.7v under full acceleration. With nearly 2 years of riding my eRider electric scooter I couldn't be happier. I am nearly due for some new tires, but apart from that the bike has been running perfectly. On my way home Friday I was complemented by a chap on a 100cc scooter when I told him it costs me about 50c a week compared to his $5 a week in fuel. His tiny scooter (physically smaller than my eRider scooter) used 3.2L/100km and had a 3 litre tank which gave him about a 80km range (about the same as I get). We had a little race from the lights, I took the lead until 20km/h, then he passed me, then around 40km/h I started catching then after 70km/h he left me. It was a 90km/h zone. But WOW, his scooter smelt BAD and was very noisy compared to the nice buzz that I'm used to.

Update: 20 June 2012

We had a heavy hail storm that only lasted about 10 minutes but it dumped millions of tiny hail stones the size of ball bearings. So many it nearlly looks like it snowed!! The scooter was un-affected by the heavy battering or freezing cold but the ride home was VERY slippery. Here's some photo's.

Update: 23 July 2013 @ 11,502Km!!!

I rode into work this morning in VERY COLD weather. Around -2°c this morning and battery still holding 70.2v at full throttle and easily accelerating up to 80km/h. I had a situation last week where I had to make 3 more erands than I had anticipated, but I still managed to clock up 62Km in the cold and draw 46.6Ah from the CHL battery. Even after 46.6Ah I could still ride fine and battery voltage would only dip under 69v when thrashing the throttle. I did see a Vmin of 67.2v. There was a slight loss of power on acceleration but there was no BMS cut-out. With voltages around 68v there is plenty of breathing room. Not too bad for my nearly 2 year old electric scooter. These CHL batteries have been performing magically in my eRider Australia scooter.

Love this thread so much I've decided to get myself one of eRider's 2013 spec 6kW VK2008's myself when I get back to Beijing (mid August). Apparently Mountain Chen now sells these from the factory with HIDs and 20A chargers as available options. I'll certainly be ticking those boxes!

The VK2008 comes standard with a cast-alumin(i)um luggage rack. You can probably mount just about any topcase adapter plate to that.

EDIT: WHAT is going on with the update function of this forum software??? It is not wokring as it should, at least not all the time...

Yup, I noticed that - will post my mounting solution when I get to it. Was actually more curious about the top case itself, but thought I might as well have asked about pcarlson's mounting solution while I was at it.

I'm probably going to go down the Givi Monolock route. Haven't heard a single bad thing, spoken or written, about the Givi range, with the sole exception being pricing.

Update: 12 August 2013 at 11,874km

Well my wife and I had to take our Nissan LEAF electric car to go and get the windows tinted on the weekend and leave the car with them from 9am to 5pm. The petrol prius only had 1 flashing dot of petrol left, and not wanting to spend money on petrol, we both agreed to take my scooter!! I followed her on my scooter to the other side of town, and now I have my full licence, I carried her back on the scooter, all on one charge 61km!! The added weight of a 2nd person only slightly altered acceleration but top speed was not affected at all!! I was very impressed. We plugged in while having a bbq lunch and left home at 3:30pm The scooter was back down to 1.1Ah used. We drove back out and collected the car and rode and drove back home totalling 121.5km on the scooter for the day!! I was very impressed with how effortless the scooter pulled both of us along!! Not once did the motor overheat or even struggle. Here are some photos.

WOW! Jealous!!

What top box are you and your wife using on your scooters?

We bought an Oxford 44L TopBox which can hold our 2 Helmets or my Helmet and my jacket. It's even big enough to hold 4 bags of groceries or even 44 rolls of toilet paper from Costco!! The topbox came with its own mounting plate which simply bolted onto the flat metal area of the scooter. I used big zip-ties to secure it further.

Mountain! I have asked you before, why do you write the dealer prices in public?
Do you plan to stop selling through dealers and only sell directly to end customers?
