VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

Hi all,

Just joined this forum. I have found a workaround to stop the flashing indicators when switching headlamp to LED. 2 resistors need to be replaced on the ICM PCB. After that the indicators act normal again.

In the ICM module there are 2 specific resistors, measuring the current in the headlight lamp, low and high beam. These 2 resistors are located on the right side of the print. The voltage over the resistor goes into the main processor on the board. The voltage on the input pins with normal bulb is about 1.9V. With the Led lamp only 0,6V. So the input is not active. The resistors are 8k2 standard. To get the 1.9V on the inputs i had to increase the resistors to 33K.('333' in SMD). The voltage is then around 2V and the flashing stops.

Hi hybride,

Nice work.. Could you say if the same mod would work with an HID bulb?

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

It should work with every bulb if you tune the value of the resistor to about 1,9 Volt, measured over the resistor.

What current takes a HID bulb?

Excellent! What kind of LED did you use (perhaps different ones produce different readings)? Link?

Excellent! I like it, great work. I will do this one next time I have things apart.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

This is the LED i used:

There is a little fan included. I removed it and mounted a small aluminum plate on the backplate. Passive cooling now.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

Hi,
where is this board located on the VX?
I´m going to convert the lamp to LED before autumn and I think I´ll change the resistors.
But what will be if I have to rechange to H4? (In Germany every vehicle has to be showed to the technical control board every two years and they won´t let the VX pass if the Lamp has no technical allowance).

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

7A is more then the original bulb. With more current, in theory, the value of the resistors should become lower.

A way to find out; take the ICM module out. Remove the case, Remove the low beam resistor. Solder 2 wires and connect with a 25K potentiometer with a 1K serie resister (to prevent short circuit) Connect a Voltage meter to the wires. Re-connect the ICM print. (isolate the bottom (with some plastic)) Carefully position everything. Turn the key on. Turn the potentiometer slowly until you read 1,9 Volt. Check if the blinking has stopped. Turn the key off. Take the ICM PCB out and Desolder the potentiometer en measure it's resistance(+1K). Fit that resistor. Done. If low and high beam has different amperes, the procedure has to be repeated for the other resistor. Hope it works for you!

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

The ICM board is located behind the windscreen and very easy to access. Take the windscreen of and remove the black plastic plate. There you will see the ICM module in front. Take the 4 bolts out and release the connector by pulling it's lever on the left side. With the same lever the connector can be connected again.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

Thank you very much!
As it is so easy to come on to the board there´s maybe a possibility to build in a little switch for the H4 bulb...

The ICM is in the rectangular box right in the middle of this image…

Great stuff!
I've added it to the http://visforvoltage.org/forum/6737-vectrix-collaborative-handbook , so please stay on topic in this thread.

Hi
Where is this board located, still trying to find my way around this bike, bought it new just before Vectrix closed so didn't bargain on mods for 2 years

How did you come across this mod, is there a schematic somewhere, I was an electronics service eng. (component level) for 40 years but this bike is stil somewhat of a mystery.
Thanks
Alex

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

For some reason it didn't work for me. When I put 33k resistors then the voltage on them was 3,6V (and the indicator was flashing). So I put 16k resistor, which made the voltage 1,83V but the indicator was still flashing.

Did you test it with a variable resistor as suggested by Hybride?

I took the easy option and simply installed the modified ICM firmware.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

As I wrote - I managed to get 1,83V (with 16kohm resistor). Do you think that it has to be exactly 1,90V?

Which software removes the issue? I noticed that there is some software, but it works only for xenons. It doesn't seem to work for LEDs. If I flash latest software from The Laird's team then will it do the trick?

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

I am currently using Framuga's ICM2016_Rv4.HEX ICM firmware which cures the flashing warning lights when using lower current LED headlamp bulbs.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

where can I download this new software update for the icm to stop my flashing green light on the dash whilst using led highligh globe? ( tried the resister mod on r14 and r15 and it bricked my icm)?

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

You can use this ICM SW:
http://dugasengineering-com.3dcartstores.com/vx1-hex-files_ep_56-1.html

It allows you to configure the headlight current and retains the original functionality of flashing the dash icon when a bulb is out, rather than just bypassing the icon.

On website, scroll down and click on VX1 Full Package SW to download zip.
Run the new configurator (Rev2) after installing DE-ICMR6.hex. In the ICM box there are 3 columns of values. The first column is the nominal measured hi/lo beam current (in A/D counts). 2nd column are custom values you can set as the nominal. 3rd column is values the SW is currently using.
So basically, turn on your LED lights and see what the nominal current is. Copy these to the custom column, then set check box. SW will use these new values as nominal and set limits accordingly.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

thanks for the info I have updated the icm with the new software file but im having trouble running the vxi configurator R2 I get a pop up box saying ''unable to find the library:PCANBasic.dll!''? Im pretty sure that I dumped the file into the correct directory I could make my computer avail for you to look at when you have time?

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

Update on using the vx1 configurator program: I managed to get it to load after down loading the pc pan basic file from the internet I cannot see a set button after changing the figure in the custom box? I also see that the figure in the measured ADcnts is constantly changing when It's reading the data. When I first looked at the screen the custom box field was set at 100 and the actual box was set to 255 refer to attached pic

IMG_7702_0.JPG
Sorry the pic is upside down I can't seem to get it loaded the right way up? Via my iPad
Any help would be appreciated regards rob

The AD value will change somewhat. Toggle the checkbox to use new custom values.

Re: VX1 LED flashing indicators workaround

Thanks very much x vectrix for your help I went back in and set both high and low beam values to 40 and unticked the checked box like you said then ticked it again and it worked!
I've been putting up with this flashing light for ages ... no more
