Hello,

The Erider Puma from Mr. Chen arrives in Spain:

http://movelco.com/1/puma_1473842.html

The problem is its price, 7000 €, aprox. $9600. It is a great motorcycle and I hope to see it on the Spanish roads.

Hmm, my answer disappeard?!
So here it goes again: I have Emsiso's BMS in my Thunder, you will find a link to the description pdf of it in my signature. Appart from not really balancing the cells it works very dependably to shut off the controller when the weakest cell goes below minimum voltage or to shut off teh charger when the fullest cell goes above the max. cell voltage. Availabiltiy may be a challenge, but you can try to contact them. Just remember they may have suffered flood damage, being situated in Slovenia...
Just make sure it is Hardware version 1.4 or newer, as HW V1.2 (which is still described and depicted on the Emsiso hompeage) was no good yet and actually killed a lot of GBS and CHL batteries. My HW V1.4 however is very dependable.

And Phil's youtube account was recently renamed to "Thomas James" (from formerly "LORD Sn1per" I think), and the newest video of his drone was uploaded less than a day ago, so I guess he's still very alive, no worries :-)

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Your BMS have any display ?

Yes, it does, but only a single digit one. If all possible gizmos are attached to the BMS (Hall effect current sensor and temperature sensors burried in the battery) the following displays are possible:
0...9: State-of-charge
C / 0...9: Charging and SOC
F / 0...9: Battery Full and showing the maximum cell voltage difference in mV, while balancing
. : Battery is full and BMS doesn’t recognize charger any more. BMS goes into sleep mode. BMS turns off when charger is disconnected.
E : Error
t blinking: Inhibit charging until cell temperatures are within permissible temp. range.

But that can only be seen if the BMS is mounted in a visible location, which would mandate a water-proof housing around it, but could cause overheeting while balancing. What might be better is using the optional outputs, where one can be configured to give out a specifiable proportional voltage to the SOC (only if a current sensor is installed!), which can be displayed on a Voltmeter gauge, plus another optional output that will switch on if SOC drops below 20%, to light a battery low warning light for example.

You can see, log, and program just about anything with a good RS232-USB adapter and a laptop running the Emsiso Device Configuration Tool, but this more for diagnsitc purposes, not for continuous use.

Hi everyone, haven't been on here for an age. I'm still commuting daily on my ERider Lightning Bolt and still runs as good as new. Nearly at 15,000kms now. I was wondering how you were all going?
Mountain Chen, if you read this, I was wondering if you could tell me the quantity and weight of the fork oil in this scooter?

Anyway, if anyone has any tails to tell it would be good to hear from you, I feel I'm the only E-Rider in Western Australia, never see another one

Cheers

See this forum is fairly quiet, but posts like this are very informative. I have an E Moto G5 and a custom scooter project. Will be good to get thoughts on best combination of parts etc. Currently I am looking to use ZEV componentry for the project bike.

Hi all!

Long time no posts :)

Update: 2 December 2014 @ 15,964km

Not much to report. I've still been riding my eRider scooter to work each and every single day. I wore out my tires around 12,000km and had to buy new ones for about $45 each. My front brakes are getting low but apart from that the bike just keeps going and going. I had a big ride the other week and did 78.9km on a single charge and JUST got home with the voltage sagging to 62v under just light throttle. I reckon I would have had maybe another km or so at 40km/h but my Battery pack was drained to 46.8Ah. I reckon I could still get 48Ah from it which is a 4% capacity loss which is really quite amazing. 2 others in Canberra now have 36,000km and 28,000km on their eRider scooters and they are going fine as well although the 36,000km scooter battery capacity has dropped to about 42Ah (50Ah CHL pack).

Long story short.....Best darn scooter I've ridden and very happy with my purchase

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Hi Phil (or Thomas James???), great to hear from you again, you were sorely missed here!!! :-)

It appears I have now finally not only caught up, but even surpassed your riding distance, my Thunder is momentarily at 16 979km. But right now I need to replace the motor (worn-out bearings and probably highly un-round stator and/or rotor) with one from a donor, plus give the GBs battery a makeover, as it is currently only capable of giving off around 20Ah before the BMS shuts off the controller. It was stored for several months at a repair shop (albeit regularly charged) due to some bad accident damage that needed fixing (bike and rider are OK again :-). And the Emsiso BMS in there I have already found in the past drains some cells more than others and does not actively balance the cells during charging. This becomes most obvious when the bike is in storage for more than two weeks. After the last battery service one year ago I still had fully usable 28Ah in my formerly 40ah pack, and I hope to get most of that back with a manually balanced pack, and maybe replacing the weakest cell with a spare one I have.

Yes, nice to hear from you again!
I suspected you had sold the scooter and left us. :-)

I have too many vehicles and have only ridden my Thunder like 2000km.
The Twizy I bought in august has surpassed that weeks ago.

Working on my Yamaha conversion (link above) with 30 CHL cells, slow but steady progress.

Hey all,

Yes I still have the scooter and ride it every single day to/from work. It's a real work horse. I'm now at 16,089km!!! I had to make a run to the post office on the other side of town and I got there after using 26.8Ah so I had to be more careful coming home. I'm happy to say I made it home after 72.2km and I drained a total of 47.98Ah from the CHL battery pack. But at the lights my voltage was sitting on 68v and was dropping to 62v under load so I think I may have been able to stretch it out to maybe 48.5Ah but not much more. I was using gentle acceleration and sticking to 60km/h zones. I had a ride in the Twizzy a few months back and it felt to have the same acceleration as my erider, I was expecting a little more, but it was still fun to drive. My Nissan LEAF now has 33,500km as well. Oddly enough, the battery capacity in my eRider has faired better than the Nissan. It's now down to 87% :-(

I'm thinking of installing a more powerful hub motor onto my scooter and dropping in a 114Ah battery pack (estimated), money just gets in the way :)

Hey, good to see you and some of the other regulars back on the forum, been a long time

Like you Phil, still using the scooter for daily transport. do very little other than check it over every so often and charge it up at night. The batteries seem to perform as they did when it was new. I did install off-grid solar at home some months back and now run both the scooter and Volt purely from solar, nice feeling to run on sunshine!!!!!!

Hope you had a good break and Happy New Year to you all.

Cheers

John

PS, anyone heard more on the PUMA? I know Eric has been having fun getting Australian type approval for the headlight, but its gone very quiet

MErollier,

Phil seems to be missing from this forum. He lives in Canberra, Australia, I think. A big problem with internet fora is that few announce their departure leading one to wonder if they died or something. Others like Current co-founder John Harding disappear (coincident with him leaving the company) for reasons we can only speculate on.

Hi,

Sorry life just gets in the way sometimes. I've very well alive and fine. My scooter has been flawless. I still get around 48Ah from my 50Ah pack and I'm now up to 20,000km. My only problem was last week my speedo cable broke and a motorbike shop found an exact copy off a 150cc Honda and sold it to me for $10. I've now worn out 5 tires and a set of brake pads. I'm very happy with the quality of this erider scooter it just keeps going and going. I still ride it to work 5 days a week, wind, rain, snow or sunny! The CHL batteries only hit 67v under full power this winter at -9c.

Re: ERider 8000W scooter - Australia (similar to xm5000li)

Great to hear from you Phil!!! :-)
That is a highly interesting report as my Thunder has also just passed the 20 000km mark - finally caught up with you :-)
First biiiig difference: my originally 38Ah usefull capacity out of my nominally 40Ah GBS Battery has dropped to just 22 to 24Ah. And my voltage sag is ridiculous even with 20°C in the battery. Your set of 50Ah CHL appear to be of absolutely outstanding quality!
My speedo cable broke at close to 16000km already. I have a second spare Thunder (without battery) that I scavenge for the spare parts I need.
My front brake pads I had to change only recently, though I had to change the complete brake system as the two brakepad pins had fused into one single part with the brake calipers... The rear brake pads still have a lot life in them.
I only completely wore out one rear tire. The front tire (an early all-season replacment for the original Chengshin semi-slicks) could probably use replacement now out of old age. I experimented with two other rear tires, but one them neve made it even close to being run down because it was so crappy in anything but 20cm of snow.
And I am on my third motor: the first died a thermal death due to a lot of heavy testing early on, and the replacement soon started to have minor contact points between rotor and stator at specific motor temperatures, easily audible by a high pitched ching-ching-ching sound. At some point it never stopped ching-chinging with noticable rythmic friction, and I had to swap in the newer motor (like the one in your VK2008) from the donor Thunder. At the same time I swaped in the complete rear suspension, as my silent blocks had worn out sufficiently to get the roadworthiness tester to demand a replacment. That was at 17000km.

Apart from the battery the biggest difference between our eriders is that I had a bad almost head-on collision while going at 50km/h, with a car that turned blindly directly into my path. This took out my Thunder for over three months of front end and bodywork repairs.

Otherwise I am still just as happy as you over my ride.
Erider Australia though appears to have gone out of business? Just as Mountain regrouped with his brother under the Efun brand.
